  1. I want to see the bears win big, but I don't want us to be like, dare I say it, Mercer Co. I think Coach Larkey has way too much class for anything like that to happen. PLUS Lynn camp has a solid football program. I am torn with wanting to see the Bears demolish somebody and not wanting to flex our muscles too much with a smaller school. I guess I just don't hate Lynn Camp. Sorry Campers, we need this win.
  2. Best of luck to your team DADDY CAT. I'm hoping, as you are, to see a good game of mountain football. We appreciate Lynn Camp for even playing. Games this year have been difficult to come by. It speaks volumes of your coach and team for playing a much larger school. I hope both teams play to their full potential and everyone stays healthy!!!! Of course I'd like to see my Bears win this one, we're 0-1. We need a win.
  3. Coach Larkey will no doubt have our boys ready for this one. They could have hung their heads when LCC got ahead and showed heart fighting to the end. I guess what I'm talking about is, I'd like to see just a tad bit more FIRE. They did seem a little worn toward the end, but they were battling a very very good LCC team and I mean it was a battle. Two or three weeks into the season this game may have had a different outcome. As for next Friday, I think Lynn Camp won't know what hit them. This won't be a walk in the park, but I think that we Harlan County fans will get to see what we've been looking for!! I can think of three or four kids right off hand that play both sides of the ball. I'd say this week in practice that if there are any boys wanting a little more playing time, then this week may be the time to show their stuff and throw down! The Bears are in shape, so I don't know exactly what the problem was. Whatever it is, our coaching staff will fix it!:thumb: GO BLACK BEARS!
  4. They better come out with something to prove. I'm afraid with all this peace, love, and unity that we've all been preaching thru this consolidation process, they are lacking the enthusiasm and fire that drives them. The need to get mad about it.:fight: I'd like to see them get a little more pep in their step. I'd like to see them just cut loose and play that smash mouth football that we all know they are capable of. :fight:
  5. That was a great game. I'm glad to get that first game under our belt and move forward. Time to get ready for Lynn Camp! Three Things: 1. We want a field and stadium as nice as LCC's!! 2. We need bleachers on both sides of the field!!!!!! (The lil "lady" sitting behind us didn't like having all those HCHS fans standing and cheering for our team when we were ahead. We are a vocal group!) 3. WE HAVE TO HAVE ONE OF THOSE JUMBOTRONS! Awesome.:thumb: Let's just back up there tonight and play again. That was a blast.
  6. Hats off to LCC. Young Charlie is the real deal. I was so proud of my bears tonight. They never gave up and had opportunity to win the game. Down by 3, 35-32, with about 3 minutes left and the ball in our hands. Dropped two well placed passes. Passes that WILL be caught later in the season. I think we proved ourselves tonight. We battled to the end with a very good Letcher County Central team. Best of luck to LCC the rest of the season. As for the rest of our schedule.......the Black Bear Nation is a force to be reckoned with. Letcher's facilities are top notch and we were all treated with plenty of mountain hospitality.
  7. I'm with ya on this! Whatever happens tonight, we will learn and grow!!!! Sure would be nice to win though. Go Black Bears!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:dancingpa
  8. GO DYLAN! I ain't forgot about him! He's as tough as he is fast!:dancingpa
  9. I'm too tired.....I don't think I'll go tonight...... YEAH RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm ready to go!!! :ylsuper: :walk:
  10. The future for Black Bear football is bright. These younger boys LOVE it! The excitement of this new program will hopefully keep our numbers up in elementary and middle school so that we can feed the high school some quality athletes. I agree that this Freshmen team will refuse to lose. That's a great class!
  11. I like what the Harlan Daily Enterprise had on their football preview...."The Black Bear BRotherhood". We're coming for ya cougars!!:dancingpa
  12. The only number Harlan Co. is concerned about is the score at the end of the game. THe only number Letcher should be worried about is the 11 on the field.:fight:
  13. What affect will the weather have on this game, if any?
  14. I ain't driving across Whitesburg Mountain to lose!!! Go Black Bears! Grillzilla can't make it to this game, perhaps next time. I expect a HUGE crowd, a lot of running, and a lot of scoring. I'll take dabears: 35-23 We have dandy kicker!
  15. The scrimmage against Knox Central was just that, a scrimmage. Although that is true, all teams across kentucky had things that they saw that they need to work on. I personally dont think HC's pass coverage was lacking that much, being that they held Knox to zero points until there was 9 seconds remaining in a twenty minute game. There was alot of kids in and out. They had a pretty good running game and passing game, but very little shown as we all had figured prior to the scrimmage. GO BLACK BEAR NATION. :ylsuper:
  16. That's what I was thinking. I remember seeing Sophmore Dylan Smith #4 in. He is just a Sophmore though.
  17. I really don't think the Freshmen team will lose a game this year. They looked good. The good thing about this scrimmage is that we all know that the Black Bears are only gonna get better as the season goes on! They got all of their first game jitters out of the way and my guess is that next week we will witness a full on assault!:ylsuper: I heard that Grillzilla might make an appearance over at LCC next week. Can't wait!
  18. High paw back atcha Bayshore. We need to get a couple of more companies on board and we will be playing at Rosspoint next year. I really think that it's just a matter of getting out and asking around. The community support for the school and even the football team has just been overwhelming. Ross Kegan is a man of his word and Black Mountain Resources has never given a donation this large before. They "get" the big picture. They realize that it's an investment into their workforce. Not everybody wants to go to college and coal miners make a good wage, as they should. They need smart, strong, healthy, and drug free employees to mine their coal. This is a chance to invest into their future and also a chance to show that "the company" really cares about the folks of our county. Anyone else interested...please make checks payable to...LOL Anyhow...back to the bears....
  19. We hadn't made it in to the stadium area yet and all at once we heard a marching sound. The folks standing out in the parking lot all turned to see the Black Bears walking to the stadium 2 X 2, all 90 of them. It was something to hear the sound of those cleats clicking on the black top. There was the HUGE line of boys marching alomost in unison and they had their games faces on. The coaches were scattered about every 20 feet along side this long snake of Black Bear football players. I'm telling you...it was a moment.
  20. They scored with 9 seconds left in that portion of the scrimmage. Gilliam is so fast. Wow! Lot's of kids were on and off the field tonight. I can't wait to get a roster to know who we are looking at. The bear's looked good. When they all came marching into that stadium, I got goose bumps. Tonight they dressed everybody and I think most everybody played. I thought the crowd was even awe struck by the sheer amount of kids. I'm sure Larkey will fine tune any weaknesses he saw tonight. The Williamsburg portion of the scrimmage was played against mostly JV and Freshmen. The Black Bear's have talent. Coach Larkey will use it. I thought we had a really big crowd for a scrimmage. Knox Central has nice facilities. Can't wait till next Friday!
  21. So how will this work? Will there be 3 games that night? Will one team play twice?
