  1. I would think a coach would think that he could work with a girl that hits exceptionally against lesser pitching.
  2. I'm not sure I understand what you mean by "I really did not take much stock in their HS stats". If a kid sent you a letter with phenomenal high school stats and did not play in the summer that didn't get your attention?
  3. Funny thing is none were ever there to see one of my kids that I can remember. I've seen more of the D-3 coaches coming to the games, either Transy and Centre in Lex or MSJ and TM in Northern KY. Probably just works out for them that way.
  4. I hate being wrong!!! Don't know why I said Lindsey.
  5. I really don't think either was bashing, good points from both posters with different views. What I haven't seen yet is one of the dozens of parents or players that have played at one of the divisions lower than d-1 explain the process that got them there. Another thing to consider when thinking of the lower divisions is what a friend of mine likes to call the "big fish in a small pond". Last years Miss Kentucky committed to a div.1 school but has since moved to NAIA Lindsey Wilson. LW has a budget alloted for athletic scholarships just like at d-1 schools, my guess is that she is going to get a pretty good percentage of that budget and probably a better deal than she was going to get at a d-1 school. Another point, I have seen numerous College coaches at high school games, usually the lower level schools, but they will come. My daughter sent out letters with stats and accomplishments to several schools in KY. Several were interested and she was able to go to a skills camp with several college coaches in attendance. One of the coaches liked what he saw and offered her the opportunity to play college ball. Through academics and the athletic scholarships it has paid for everything and she has been a starter since the day she stepped on campus and will have a college degree in the very near future.
  6. Not an expert by any means but here are a few things to think about. First, be realistic about your expectations. Very few kids from Kentucky get div. 1 scholarships and I think JMU has been right on the money about the best ways to get div. 1 attention. Think about the academic monies and grants your child can receive. Staying in the state of Kentucky will increase these monies for the most part. There are 4 d-2, 4 d-3 schools and 13 NAIA schools in Kentucky. D-2 schools and NAIA schools give athletic scholarships while d-3 schools do not, but they do seem to do a good job with providing grants and academic scholarships. There are lots of options inside the state of KY with several of these NAIA schools actually fielding JV teams as well to give more kids opportunities. Send out lots of letters, they will respond and there is a very high turnover rate in College Softball, it is very demanding to juggle softball and academics and some kids just don't want to do it.
  7. I think she graduated early and is moving on to med school.
  8. Just curious about the catcher now at HC. Can she play another position? Pretty sure Herrman can play anywhere and play well. Would it be that great of an advantage to have her catch?
  9. She started in Right Field and batted second, went 0-3 but BGSU only had one hit and still managed to win 1-0. Gregg is a phenomenal defensive outfielder.
  10. This is what little I know about it. The gentleman that runs the website is a newspaper writer in Corbin. I think he probably does most of Southeastern KY himself and relies on other people throughout the state. They may have a vote as they did in the 6th or someone he knows may just put a list together for him. He is one of the few people that actually does anything for girls softball in the state. What he does may not be accurate, but what is? Northern KY has always been bad about weekly rankings and all-state voting, probably because very few of the coaches feel they have teams and players worthy. Not really a good excuse, but it is what it is. Check back through the lists of all-state players from the past and you will see very little NKY representation compared with the rest of the state.
  11. OK, I am going to word this a little differently. There was NO KSCA vote for the top players or teams. Your blame is misdirected.
  12. I think these lists are compiled by the gentleman that runs the website, not an actual vote. Not sure where he gets his information.
  13. Can you link the top players by region as well? I do not know how to add a link.
  14. Tressel went into the National Championship game in both '06 and '07 with the number 1 ranked team in the nation.
  15. Not sure why you think the playoff is going to make it easier for a team outside the SEC to win. It will almost guarantee that 2 SEC teams make the playoff on opposite sides of the bracket forcing an OSU to win back to back games against SEC teams. Not sure the biggest OSU fan thinks that could happen.
  16. LSU, I don't pay much attention to OSU recruiting, but is Meyer using his connections in Florida? It just seems the midwest is falling way behind in high school talent.
  17. They have one of the easiest roads to the championship but their last 2 appearances don't give them much hope of winning....overmatched.
  18. That is a cool way to do it. Very Nice!!!!
  19. Wow, 80-3 in region play. Is anyone catching up?
  20. Nice read Lawnboy, good luck to your team and fine group of coaches.
  21. Not sure I agree that this situation was either bad or good coaching. I'm guessing NDA wanted to make some defensive replacements. The fact that it took WV 7.2 seconds to get the ball to mid-court tells me it wasn't that bad of a decision. That is almost like saying Coach K outcoached Ricky P on the Laetner shot, sometimes things just happen.
