Hmm, sure sounds like an anti-lewis comment. They were simply stating that Lewis is better than their record. There are a few of these boys that are just as athletic, just as strong and have just as much HEART as any player from Henry Clay, Lawrence or some of the other teams mentioned. No way would the West game have been an upset. I dont think its a fact that Lewis doesnt belong in this discussion, or any discussion. I did not read a statement on Lewis being better than some of these GREAT football schools, just a little better than their own record.

Lewis gave Powell a game they didnt expect. They were within 10 on 2 different occasions as well as leading the game by scoreing on the opening drive. The score was 35-24 when Powell scored with just over 2 min to go. Penalties have haunted LC, they had 4 face mask calls on them fri. Lewis should have won the West game, seems like the ball just wont bounce their way. The Fairview game, well the eagles couldnt have named the score. The Lions are better than their record, but have to get a couple of wins for the seniors...

Congrats to the Pirates. Cole Cooper and Blake Kilgore had a great game as well as Andy Downing and Frankie Witten. These boys played a little more as a team for this game. They started showing a little more emotion against West and it carried over for this game. Good things happen for them when they throw the ball!!!! They have got to cut out the penalties, LC had 4 face mask called. Only 1 turnover though...

True, but Knox has coach Combs, and that does give them a chance.

Congrats to Andy Downing (offensive mvp) and Jake Bolander (defensive mvp) this game was the 27th annual Paul Westerfield bowl. MVP's are given for two Lewis Co players as well as an MVP from the visiting team. Andy had a good game recieving and running the ball. Jake finished the game with 2 sacks, 5 tackles for a loss, along with 8 additional tackles. He lived in west's backfield. Lewis did have a couple chances to win this game and yes it does seem like they run 5 or 6 plays. We hope they can get this transition behind them and win a couple of games.

Bolander actually played DT for Lewis last season. He finished his Jr. year with 90 tackles, 16 total tackles for a loss with 7 of them being sacks. He is playing the nose for their 3-5-3 defense this yr. He will be drawing double and triple teams this year as well, if not, he will take the handoff from the quarterback. :fire: Jake has been contacted by several schools, a great kid on and off the field, we wish him the best. That kid was Jake Bolander, he is a Sr. this year. Jake finished the yr with 90 tackles, 16 tackles for loss, with 7 sacks. Jake is maxing 310 on the bench, 5 flat 40, 25" verticle and has a motor that wont quit. 5' 9" and 240 lbs. He is playing DL and right guard for Lewis Co. Keep an eye on him again....

Ram, I do realize that this is done at Raceland, but you guys are in a totally different situation than Lewis County. Racelands football program is very solid and has been for years. With the problems LC is having with the football program the coach should be 100% football, 12 months out of the year. If coach Hughes had tons of experience, and a half dozen great assistants then yes, he could probably handle both. To take a chance on him being able to handle both is not fair to the students, or the programs. Lewis needs Quality coaching, communication and committment for these kids, not something that is going to be difficult.

Where would you say the problem with the base running was?

Actually, the runner at third was tagged out slideing into home, the runner at first was tagged out attempting to take second base just after the play was made at home. Yes a double play, but nothing like you are trying to make it sound. The only other runner picked off by a Russell pitcher was at first base without a runner on third. Now, you don't have to worry Mr. Statmaster your funny ha ha play still never works.....:lol:

Congrats to coach Hughes.... but my question is, how fair is it to either program if he remains the head baseball coach as well? How can he be 100% committed to both sports? These sports overlap each other starting in Feb. I just dont see how one person can be a head coach for both sports, and give each program the time,and effort that the students deserve. He would have to cheat one sport a little every spring to be able to handle both jobs.

Iam pretty sure Fort Knox is the job he accepted. I dont know if coach Combs has went official with this yet. Lewis Co. should have a new coach by the end of May.

I have yet to hear or see a list. I think a couple of Combs assistants are interested. Really hasnt been much said as of late. It was a real shock to a lot of people. Brandon will be missed, he really had things going in the right direction with a lot of high expectations. Hopefully it doesnt set the program back even more. They need to do something quickly...

Sorry about that Jared, I didnt know he had hit a homer until I read the Maysville paper. I think the pitcher for Deming was a Freshman. Not for sure how short the field is. I was told the right field line is a touch less than 300. Maybe 290 or so?

Final from Mt. Olivet. Bolander, Witten and Ginn pitched for Lewis. Lions rocked the baseball again. Bolander hits two 3 run homers. Witten, lykins, Dermon, Frerichs and shaw each had a home run as well. This is a hitters field and they really took advantage of it... Keep it up LC.:dancingpa

Final from Raceland. Jeremy Lykins goes the distance for Lewis Co. The Lions crushed the ball all evening. These kids are really turning it on. Great job LC, keep up the hard work. :ylsuper:

True, these things should happen ASAP. How will his leaving affect some of the key players? How will it affect parents and alumni that had committed and believed in coach Combs? Coach Combs had to make decisions to better his family, as he should. Combs has done a great job with this program, showed the program the needs and proper ways to teach and practice each position and as a team. The kids that accepted him have greatly improved their game, those kids that didnt was not ready for the work and effort. That seems to be the biggest reason for the drop in numbers. 2008 season was really looking good. A large number of kids had verbaly committed to play, with key players returning. I just hope the program doesn't take two steps back after taking one step forward. I know Brandon put a lot of pride in some of these kids heart, helped them believe in themselves and find the player he thought they could be.

Lewis had only 1 error. They turned 3 double plays as well. Great win....

So GC just gave Lewis 5 runs? They hit the ball very well to earn those 5 runs.
