Point is, everything acquired is great. As Walt Allen showed us, even winning Mr. Basketball does not guarantee a D1 or D2 scholarship. It makes no difference to college coaches if you are first team, honorable mentioned, or whatever else. Getting an offer or scholarship is based on talent and potential and filling a need for a program. College recruiting takes the politics out of it.

The first game was with 6 players and not the entire roster. It was a pick up team that had not practiced nor played their first game. They ran no set plays. The finals was a little different as they added two more players, but McGee ended up getting hurt in the 1st period. The championship game was played with DS playing Jenkins' team that had just played a game 5 minutes before. Playing back-to-back games they still kept it close and led most of the way. Jenkins at 6-4 was their tallest player and had to check Phares the entire game and managed to hold him to 6 points total. A DS front line of 6-8, 6-6, 6-6, and 6-5 was a bit much for this pick up team. It was a fun game to watch and interesting to see a box and chaser being used on Jenkins in the 2nd half. Even though they were exhausted the game ended up being a 3 point loss to DS. The West Virginia player for DS named Bivens at 6-6 ended up being the major difference scoring in the post and cleaning up rebounds and having several putbacks. But no question the DS team will be competitive. Jenkins will join his team with Indiana Elite having a line-up including Colt Ryan 6-4 guard, Jenkins 6-4 guard, DJ Byrd 6-5 swing, Stephen Van Treese 6-10, and Mason Plumlee 6-10 all with mid and high major offers and Byrd committed to Purdue and Van Treese having offers from UK and IU. Should be an outstanding spring and summer!

Sometimes its tough to get the top Kentucky players and prospects on one team because of economics. There are some kids that cannot afford $1,000 to $2,500 it cost to play for teams such as the DS Allstars. Whereas the top teams in the county with rosters full of players with D1 offers such as the Atlanta Celtics, Nashville Celtics, New York Gauchos, and Indiana Elite may not ask for a dime from players and get the best talent and not just the ones that can pay.

You are correct about 50+ games this summer on the AAU circuit. Jenkins will be joining nationally highly regarded Indiana Elite and will get started on those games at the King James Classic in Akron. Hood will resume play for another top program in the Nashville Celtics when he's cleared to play following his injury.

Every year has surprises. Some top players shine even more as they have increased scoring or leadership roles. The same can be said for some talented players who didn't even start last year and now get the chance due to graduating starters. One thing for sure, the '09 class does have its share of talent and depth and more than what some predicted. The 2010 class is very strong. Its good to see the trend emerging as it won't do nothing but help gain attention for future classes.

I think you need to add Jenkins to the Mr. Basketball chase. Manual played half of its schedule against top 20 teams the past season and Jenkins averaged at 18 points per game and 6 boards while being the focal point of every opposing defense. Jenkins averaged 22 in the Defenders, 20 in the King of the Bluegrass including 28 against Fayette GA's Noel Johnson (top 5 guard in the '09 class), and nearly 19 a game in the Louisville Invitational Tourney in helping lead Manual to its first LIT crown in 50 years. You might wanna add Jenkins held Phares to only 6 points in a recent aau game while putting up 17 or 18 against them, not bad. There's a reason why they ran a box-and-chaser defense on Jenkins. I know there's not a lot of 6th and 7th region posters on this board, but you have to admit 9 of the 35 or 40 players invited to the KY Allstars tryout hail from Louisville.

Most would say that's a very good start.
