  1. Anderson is the only undefeated team in the region including a 7 point win at Shelby County. But, Shelby is getting the Top 20 rankings by Cantrall and LIT. Don't understand their computers sometimes. I know its based on strength schedule among other factors, but the computers throw common sense out the window. AC has region wins over Gallatin, Owen, Simon Kenton, Shelby, Oldham (twice), Eminence, and Shelby. Losses were to decent teams in Bardstown, Henry Clay, and Manual.
  2. Congratulations FERG!!! A super young man with a great attitude!!! He can flat out shoot the rock. Several threes last night when he let them go I said no way. He was several feet behind the line. But he drilled them!! Ferg has some incredible range on that jumper. Reminds me of a kid at Mason County that was a good shooter, but can't remember his name. Gym was packed and great atmosphere in the Lion's Den!!!
  3. Ferg sit out most of the 2d half. It was nice honoring Ferg with the game basketball as he went over 2,000 points. If he stays healthy, he will by far go over 3,000. His dad came out and got a big hug and I saw some big tears in the eyes. He is proud of that young man and well he should be. More importantly than basketball he is a great young man who acts like it is no big deal and it is clear to see HE IS LOVED!!! As an outsider attending the game last night it is nice to see the FAMILY atmosphere shared among the Elliott fans!!! Congratulations FERG!!!! By the way, some of the three's he hit last night were several feet behind the arc. He has some amazing range from way downtown!!! There is a kid that played at Mason County that had that same range!! Can't remember his name.
  4. Hold on. This kids still got 45-50 games yet to play. Lot of variables and what ifs in that amount of games. Team that I have come to falll in love with, root for, and watch (despite living 120 miles away). I don't think you can compare them to the past, because they have to much future left to talk about their past in comparison. But it sure is great to see a county that ranks 115th of 120 counties in population and with the largest town of 690 doing so great and getting so much hype and discussion. They are making the folks at Hee Haw proud (not a downgrade but if they still ran the show the guy would probably stand up in the cornfield and say Sandy Hook KY Population 690 SALUTE!!) If your not 50 yrs. old you may have no idea what I'm talking about!!!
  5. This score really surprises me. UHA had lost to highly ranked region teams in Male, Paducah Tilghman, and Hopkinsville. All with winning records. But to lose to a team 9-10 really surprises me. Has Hopson ever been thrown out of a game before??
  6. There are no undefeated teams in KY HS Boy's B-Ball and only 5 teams with one loss: Elliott County 15-1, Bryan Station 15-1, Holmes 14-1, Male 12-1, and LaRue County 12-1. There are however 20 teams with perfect region records, but Elliott County is the only one to have played more than 8 region games at 11-0 in the region. Pineville is 8-0, Five teams are 7-0, Four teams are 6-0, Three teams are 5-0 Four Teams are 4-0, and two teams are 3-0. Just showing our tuff KY HS Basketball is and if you finish a season with only 3-5 losses including one region loss then you've had a tremendous season.
  7. I am hoping and planning to see a great game Monday Jan. 21st. Rose Hill vs. Elliott at Bath County. One little problem. Elliott must beat Raceland. This potential game I will drive 2 hours to see!! Especially since they haven't played each other since the 05/06 season.
  8. Lot of good teams coming up in the All A State with UHA, Elliott County, June Buchanan, Hazard, Shelby Valley, and Paintsville. I don't hear the jumpers mentioned in that group. Somerset is always competitive in the tournament and it looks like they will be a factor again. Great season and win streak for the Jumpers.
  9. This proves the 16th region is pretty competitive. Clark's lofty ranking was brought down by a Rowan team with a losing record from the little ole mountain region 16. Way to go Vikings!!! Great win!!!!
  10. Elliott is 15-1 and ranked between #4 and #7 in the state. They will be fine and last night may have been the one chance for a region team to beat them this year. Good teams find a way to win when it seems the odds are against them. THEY WON and will win plenty more. But, yes the region is not rolling over. I think Elliott proved they can take your best shot and still find a way to win. And I would hope their competitive juices are saying, come on you other teams and give us your best shot like East did. They need to be challenged if they are going to advance in March!!! I believe they will win 30 games and that will probably be some kind of Elliott record for wins in a season. I still don't think a region team will beat them. May be several more close games in single digits, but again the will find a way to WIN. That's what champions do!!!
  11. They have an upcoming game (Holmes) in a tournament at East Jessamine which is only 30 minutes from my location. I look forward to seeing them play. I believe it is a Saturday at 3:00PM.
  12. These are obviously some out of state ratings done by a computer somewhere. I'll stick with Cantrell, Lit, BGP, and AP (In State) Like the other person said how do you even access these ratings and where are they?? Most of us never heard of these before??
  13. I say Holmes in the State Tourney last year. Although they didn't win the tournament they had what the most athletic talent of the 16 teams and with one loss this year must be a comparable team??
  14. Madisonville by 3. I have not even seen Jon Hood, but he must be impressive to have offers from UK, Georgia, and Tennessee among others as only a Junior. Until about 4 weeks ago this guy was not even on the radar screen for fans in Central Kentucky. They probably have to get to Rupp this year, because besides Hood they are a senior dominated team.
  15. Of the top five according to Cantrell I agree with #1 (11th), #2 (7th), and #5 (9th). I think these are the 3 regions that most of the other regions are hoping are in the opposite bracket come State Tourney draw time. They have what I call Power teams. The #3 region (4th) with the decline of perennial power Warren Central doesn't have what I call a Power Team. The #4 region (5th) with Adair County and others doesn't really have a Power Team either. I was surprised the 6th (Louisville) was rated down at #8. Most regions still don't like playing a Louisville team in the 1st round. Most of us rural country folks are always hoping 6, 7, and 11 draw in the same quarter and knock each other out in the 1st and 2d round.
  16. I forgot one lest I make the folks in Johnson County mad. Painstville and Landon Slone are a nice team I saw twice in the 5/3 tourney. Problem is that Shelby Valley seems to have the mental edge on them every time they play.
  17. I would agree you need to add Smart, Taylor, Sanford, and Phares. I have seen Sanford several times and the kid has a world of talent. Phares has emerged from what seems like nowhere. Anybody that goes into hostile Mason Fieldhouse and scores 23 has game. At 6'7" he has nice size and the ability to score inside. By the way, I am not a Lexington Catholic fan (just the opposite), but they have some kids that can play on the next level.
  18. Boone County by 5 points in a close game with a minute left.
  19. Here are 12 teams that probably feel like they should have got 1 vote somewhere: 1) Adair County 2) Montgomery County 3) Paducah Tilghman or Marshall County 4) PRP or DeSales 5) Madisonville or Hopkinsville 6) Hazard 7) Corbin 8) Lincoln County 9) Highlands If they had 20 voters (more representative) than I'm sure most of them would have garnered a few votes. Thoughts??
  20. I got in a little on this way back. 75 posts and growing. If nothing else Elliott County and the 16th is an active and fan based region. Seems the young men from Sandy Hook have everybody thinking and talking. I have met Jonathan Ferguson who is a quiet and real nice young man. He would probably say we all talk too much and just let us play ball. These are all just high school kids wanting that first car and a young lady to love. Yes, they are competitive, but they would probably say us adults get wrapped around the axle so to speak. Good luck to the Rams and Lions on Saturday. Play hard and all of them are winners in LIFE.
  21. WIREMAN--Good question and I don't know. Does anyone know how and who compile the Bluegrass Preps Poll??
  22. TROJAN-- I agree. Madison Central has lost 6 games and Ballard has gone down hill since opening win against Scott County. Shelby Valley should be 8-12 and not too far down past #7 Elliott. But, they did beat Male in Pike County which I am sure was a hostile place for any Louisville team. Personally, I think the Bluegrass Preps Poll is more accurate than Cantrell or Lit ratings.
  23. Wow. Hanging around and making it close by 17-23 points. I thought close was single digits. Sounds like the definition of close has changed in the 16th Region. Sounds like everybody is bracketing Elliott in hopes of getting it down to single digits by end of Feb. Biting off chuncks of points at a time if you will. But, somebody in the 16th has to get them to single digits, before there is a chink in their armour and any hope of them going down.
  24. Looks good to me East Carter has a nice team and is one of the top teams in the region, but lost by 32 to Elliott at HOME. Elliott has them in Sandy Hook tomorrow night. Common logic says it should be just as bad a score or worse in Sandy Hook. Let's see what happens tomorrow after the dust settles. Never know.
