  1. Does anyone have the new AP Poll this week?? If so could you post the Top 10 and the vote getters. I have done multiple internet searches and can't find it. Thanks a lot to whoever has it and posts it.....
  2. You can go to the khsaa.org site and look under basketball and regional site plans and they have them going several years out.
  3. Anybody that beats PRP must have a nice team. Have not seen HC play but have seen Paintsville 3x. Slone is 6'4" and a true guard who is quick, can jump, handle the ball on the break and make good decisions, and shoot from all over. He averages 25ppg and is shooting 60% from the field. Bill Mike Runyon keeps asking where are the colleges and that he is as good as any player he has had and we know Paintsville in the 90s had some terrific players. Kid will make a nice player for a team like Marshall where JR Vanhoose had a good career.
  4. Elliott #1, RH/East #2, Bath #4. Those four teams seem to have set themselves above the pact and would make a good seimi-final round at Morehead come March. But with upsets the norm I would bet only 3 of the 4make the semis and one surprise team falls in like a Ashland/Raceland/Fairview.
  5. 17 points is closer than I thought. My understanding is that subs played most of the 4th quarter for Elliott and that Elliott didn't play bad, but didn't play good either.
  6. 18 of the 25 teams come from Regions 6,7,9,10,11. The other 11 regions only have 7 teams in the Top 25. With the draw coming up in 3 days it is clear you want the top or bottom, but stay away from the middle of the pack. These 5 Regions have what are commonly referred to as the "Power Teams" and traditionally are hard to beat.
  7. After what seemed like slow motion for the Elliott/RH game, the boys from Sandy Hook and Isonville will be looking to get back in the after burner mode. After a poor shooting game threes should be raining down again. I see 100 points coming and by guess who. GO LIONS!!!
  8. Wouldn't trying to open up a debate, but guess I stirred the pot. Just wanted to clarify what was their viewing area. Living in Central KY I have never watched the channel nor do I get it. Good lively discussion though since I just came back to the thread to get my answer. Thanks to all....... Polls are for people like us so me can have something to talk about I guess. Good luck to the Mountain Teams and the Hill Teams too.
  9. I assume they only consider 12th-15th Regions and not the 16th Region. I have been to Elliott County and Sandy Hook several times. Guess those are big hills and not mountains?? But, I have been to Somerset and I sure didn't see any mountains?? There are all kinds of polls. Maybe Elliott is in the gotta wana get there Top 10 Poll!!!!
  10. Since we are talking about losing as the title of this thread. As of 1/24/08 there are 0 undefeated teams, only two one loss teams (Holmes and BS), and 8 teams with two losses (Elliott, LaRue, Muh North, McCreary Cen, Pineville, Paintsville, Shelby Valley, and Waggener). The last three state champs had the following losses: Scott County (2), J-Town (3), South Laurel (4). My point---All good teams lose and 2-4 losses doesn't mean anybody is finished for the season including Rose Hill who has 8 losses against a tough schedule. I remember Apollo who got to the final four a few years ago with I believe it was 10 losses. Shows there are still 20 teams or so capable of getting to Saturday morning in Rupp. Just some perspective in what has been a lively healthy, debated thread. I'm sure we are in for plenty of surprises come March.
  11. My advice to Coach Mays (and I'm sure he doesn't care about my or anyone else's advice) is that next year they schedule 4 or 5 top 10 teams and play them anywhere on any night. Playing top programs only helps you get better win or lose. I would schedule my district games, five other top regional teams including RH, and then look for games with some Power Teams from Lexington and Louisville. Then throw in a Scott County game also. Playing some of the bottom tier 16th Region teams does nothing to prepare you for post season.
  12. WALRUS--What I meant by TRUE small school is that the players from private schools come from other counties and sometimes other states (case with OJ Mayo when he was at Rose Hill). All the players are not born and raised in that tiny area. When you do that it takes the TRUE out of it no matter if you only have 30 students in the school and 20 of them can dunk. This is in no way a kick at RH or any other school, but just the plain facts. UHA is the same way. Real small but their players certainly don't all come from Christian County.
  13. Have not seen Bath, but Elliott beat them 40 points and RH beat Elliott. I know Bath and RH have both improved tremendously since earlier in the year. I saw RH beat Elliott and with the way they are playing now I say RH 75-64 despite the earlier game score and Bath beating them 18 at RH.
  14. MUSTANG--I too am an outsider located in the middle of the weak 12th Region, but I have some bias because I like Elliott and have seen them play 6 or 7 times. Being objective, they really haven't played enough Top 10 teams or Power Teams to make an assessment (as one would say in the world of statistics there is not a representative sample to make an assessment) They had one test and lost that against Cov Cath. Test #2 is at Mason on 2-12. Test #3 will only come if they get to Rupp and then only depending on who they draw or if they win a game or so. Had they scheduled some games against Lex Cath, Bryan Station, Scott County, and say a 7th Region team, then we would have a much clearer picture of where they stand. Are they a Top 10 team?? Again, I don't know (opinions are like our backsides and everybody has one), but there is not enough evidence to convict them one way or the other. The only true assessment will be Mason and then a shot at a power team in Rupp if they get to that point.
  15. Some Louisville HS Fans tell us what is up with Male?? Lost 2 games recently. The 7th Region is tough and loaded with good teams and understand they haven't been losing to Bugtustle High School. LIT loss not that surprising, but losing to Seneca is??
  16. Wow!! Everybody had SL ranked from 5-10 in the region. Sounds like they are a lot better than that!!! Somebody tell us more about the Watkins kid?? How many points did he have? Is he a sophomore?? I don't remember him from any past SL State Tourney games?? Probably didn't play much as a freshman with all the talent they've had the last few years.
  17. My #1 team in my heart is Elliott County and I have no ties to the county and live 2.5 hours from there. They will probably fall to about 10, 11, or 12. In all fairness, they have only played one top team and that was a healthy Cov Cath and lost. They beat a good Grace Academy TN team that had two D-1 players that were 6'10" and 6'8". They should have scheduled 4 or 5 games against the Lex Cath's, Bryan Station's, Scott County's, etc. Test #2 comes 2-12 at the Mason Fieldhouse. Although I would love for Elliott to be ranked #1 that is unrealistic given their strength of schedule. In reality they probably should have been around #15 all year long given the schedule.
  18. As a Central KY resident 120 miles away I still believe in this team and won't quit them with a few losses. The county statistics show they are a TRUE small school (private schools don't count as a TRUE small school) and that gives all the little guys a chance still. I have read all the books on Milan HS (Hoosiers) run and the great Bobby Plump. Elliott brings back memories (for me) of the King Kelly Wayland Team and the Carr Creek's of the 50s. I have been to 10 straight State Tourneys (all games) and I'm tired of Goliath (large schools) dominating the tournament. I always root for the little mountain schools, but as of late they haven't won many. Elliott gives us dreamers of a by gone era a ray of hope again. In all fairness Elliott has just had one true test (outside the region) and that was Cov Cath and they lost. Really can't base your whole evaluation on 1 or 2 games. The 2-12 game at Mason County should be real test #2 and measuring stick #2. They did beat a good Grace Academy, TN team that had two D-1 players that were 6'10" and 6'8". They just haven't had enough games against top 10 teams to make a true evaluation. If I was the coach I would have scheduled 3 or 4 more Lex. Cath's, Bryan Station's, Scott County's, etc. But, maybe nobody wants to play little nobody from nowhere. That I don't know. Anyway, good luck Lions!! The dreamers and little guys are still believing in miracles even if they seemed to have faded away the last 40 years.
  19. Haven't seen either team, but saw RH beat Elliott. Anybody who beats RH by 18 gets my vote. RH is obviously playing a lot better than earlier in the year. Bath by 12-14 points over Fairview.
  20. Agreed they were the better team last night and about the same time you were hitting this response I was hitting mine to LRCW and giving Rose Hill credit. Again I am impressed with the talent of that team.
  21. Good point LRCW. My point is Elliott got outplayed (with the exception of turnovers) in every area, but it was still a nail biter. Frankly (and I was there) I'm not sure how they hung around because even though it was my first time seeing the Hill they have some impressive talent in Euton and Jackson.
  22. Here is the question to ponder? And I'll take all answers objective or bias. If Elliott shoots 53% and Rose Hill shoots 28% and Elliott is even in rebounds vs. getting beat badly, then is it still a 1 point game with under a minute to play?? I would read the stat line without looking at the score and think RH won by 25. That however was not the case. It was anybody's game inside one minute. Let the responses go!!!
  23. Some observations from courtside Elliott shot terrible (maybe Rose Hill Defense and maybe poor shooting or a combo of both) Elliott never got into a transition game, you must make baskets to do that. Rose Hill controlled the tempo and it never got to Elliott's pace except for a few isolated cases. It is clear from Elliott's 19 games that a game in the 60s to mid 70s and you have a close game. A game in the 80s or 90s and Elliott wins. Bath beats RH by 18 and Elliott beats Bath by 43. RH beat Elliott by 7. That math don't add up. That's why anything can happen in this game called Basketball. Congrats to RH on a big win. I hope these two see each other in Morehead.
  24. Two good wins for Elliott after the close call vs. East. After the East game there seemed to be a ray of hope that Elliott would in fact lose a couple of region games. What was a big 10 ft. tunnel of light is now back to a small flashlight of light again after two impressive wins. Will there be another close shave like the East game. May be, but I think the window of opportunity was last Tuesday night and it closed after that. But, remember East and Elliott will probably play in the district final and perhaps the region final. Beating a team 4 times in one year is tough no matter who you are. The district is at Elliott and for some reason East plays them tougher at Elliott. Elliott probably wishes the district was at East. By the way, I saw Ashland get beat by Henry Clay today by double figures. A Henry Clay with no Moses or Boyd. Was not impressed with Ashland. If Elliott played them (Ashland) today they would have blew them away by 35-40 points.
  25. Station wins by 15 in Georgetown. WOW!! And after Scott just beat Mason in the fieldhouse. Right now BS has to be everybody's #1 ranked team and especially with 16 straight wins.
