Excuses - find a way. This was not the blizzard of '78 were talking about. Besides, I think quite a few of the WV parents were available to transport kids today if they were asked.

Doesn't change the fact that the seniors should have been in the gym working on their game. Open gym is what you make it, and using a dusting of snow as an excuse not to go is...........well, it is just an excuse.

Sorry, I guess when you said they were unorganized and not worth attending I should have assumed you were talking about the players and not the coach. My bad..

It's an open gym, not a practice. The players could have used it to work on skills that they are lacking, get some shooting in, shoot some free-throws. With the games they have coming up, and the level they have been performing at you would think they would be lining up outside of the gym to get some time in. Good players find ways to get better and fix problems when they are struggling, others find excuses and cast blame elsewhere. I do not always agree with what has been done at WVHS lately, but how can anyone find fault with the coach on this one.

How many games does the All AA count towards if a team advances far??? Most Class "A" Schools count the All "A" Regional as one of their 2 tournaments. If a school advances to the State, they will have to drop regular season games to accomodate the additional games they play in the State Tournament. (The Class "A" State is a seperate tournament fromt he Regional as far as scheduling goes) Most Class "A" Schools have a gentlemen's agreement to drop games with the winner of their region if they need to.

But to get this thread back on track, Why is there not a Class "AA" Tournament? When there is a Class "A" Tournament? Because the Class "A" schools and supporters took the initiative some 25 years ago to begin something that has evolved into today's version of the tournament. Anyone could create a tournament like the Class "A" for any special group they wanted, it is just an invitational tournament. You could do it for Class "AA", you could do it for private schools (wouldn't that cause problems) you could do it for schools whose mascot was the Wildcats. If you create a tournament, you can invite whoever you would like. It won't be state sanctioned, but it would be a tournament and count towards your maximum number of games.

Definitely not questioning the talent of the middle school program at Boone County. Obviously, based on the results of BCHS alone, they must produce some talented players. Just questioning the decision to hold kids with talent back if THEY want to play up.

and I am sure Coach Rosen is doing everything in her power to get them ready to win these games. She has to know how important they are.

As opposed to a kid transferring to a school where she knows no one, has no connections, and does not know what to expect. I think her involvement with these players on these teams IS the reason she came to WV, but I doubt it was recruiting on WV's part.

How would that happen, by accepting tuition students who play sports?? Believe me, more than one of my friends has tried to get their kid in WV and were unable to because their kid did not have a good enough academic resume'. Tuition students are taken, and allowed to stay, only if they are the cream of the crop academically. If anything the opening of the new high school and the ability for the district to accept more tuition students will only improve WV's academic status.

She better be looking out for Grant as well as Owen, those are their next games and can set the tone for the rest of the season.

Over the last few years Walton-Verona has had to limit their number of tuition students due to overcrowding.. At Walton, like at most small schools, most of their students participate in athletics, this is true of the tuition students as well. However, with the opening of the new high school there will be more seats open for tuition students and I would expect their out of district population to rise again. I have heard that there is a waiting list for people to get in as tuition students.

It is not really the NKAC, but they used to have a Boone/Kenton Atheltic League for Middle School, but infighting broke it apart and now there is a Boone County Athletic League that includes the Boone County Middle Schools and Grant County Middle School. So those principals are holding kids back so they can win a league that consists of their school district plus one additional school. It is almost like intramurals.

They pay tuition. Any public school district in the state can have tuition students from another district attend their school, the difference is most do not attract students from other districts. Because of Walton-Verona's excellent academic prgrams they attract many out of district tuition students and some of these students play sports

They could beat Holmes, but I doubt they could win the other two.

Highlands was a big enough school, but a young Jaime Walz was a big enough talent to earn the spot. In my opinion the best players should play at the highest level. Makes it simple.

So winning a middle school tournament is more important than winning the Regional at the high school level. Seems like those ms principals are being short sighted.

I think it is pretty much common knowledge that he was asked to step down. They wanted to go in "a different direction". Seems that they have.

Jeanie, you seem to think that there is some hidden agenda that is unfolding. I would love to hear what you think that is.

There is nothing to keep the middle sized schools from having their own version of the All "A" Classic. It is just an invitational tournament in which all of the small schools in the state are invited. No different from a Christmas Tournament other than the level of organization and the number of teams who participate.

Owen County is turning into a tough Class "A" opponent. I don't think many people thought they would be having this kind of success this year. Congratulations Coach Osbourne, I hope you continue the success, you deserve it.
