Where are the ratings? On the thread started by BGH lol? Let's truly put things in perspective; it's the first game of the season and Bracken's oldest player isn't even old enough for a driver's license yet. They don't even have a junior or senior on the roster. How many other teams can do that and be competitive? The Lady Bears are just getting started, and they're doing a fine job of it. Heck, Brossart is self-ranked as 2nd in the 10th region and they beat Holy Cross by four when Campbell beat Holy Cross by three and Bracken beat Campbell by 3. Does that mean they are overrated too?

Catcher did not quit...looks like you've been misinformed there Bumper. Have you bumped your head recently? Campbell Bump? Sticklen is out, that was a given following an ACL tear. You sure know a lot for someone who never manages to get out from behind an avatar.

Lady Camels took an early lead, scoring two unearned runs on a throwing error. Lady Bears battled back and won their season opener 6-3. Bracken's pitcher fanned nine from circle, and Bracken's bats warmed up after the first couple of innings. Lady Camels team play solid defense and will probably creep up on those who overlook them and least expect it---they have come a long way since the beginning of last season.

Bracken's softball field is behind the middle school. Oh, and Bump...be sure to bring some money for one of those yummy walking tacos---best concessions in the 10th region IMO. You'll surely be hungry after a long day of waitressing.

If you reread my post, I said prior to All A Action. The first part of your schedule consists of Holy Cross, Pendleton, Beechwood, Calvary Christian, Lloyd, and Ludlow. Two of those are pool play in your tournament I think. I was just saying that those teams are usually much weaker than the Lady Stangs and wouldn't seem terribly difficult to win...that part didn't look like "one of the toughest schedules in Northern Kentucky". Last year's schedule before All A action looked much more challenging. And I guess in the All A you will only play Bracken if we are able to beat St. Pat, and if you are able to beat Nicholas. I realize the other teams that are in your tournament are in the other pool.

Sounds like a quality scrimmage and win for the Lady Stangs. A team self-ranked as 2nd in the region, however, should play a heftier schedule than the one I saw on KHSAA, including your own tournament just prior to All A action. What say ye BGH?

I was mildly entertained but now I'm really confused. Is that number one on the coach's list? Number one on your list? Number one on the new list after today's game? The pitcher? The girl wearing #1 on her jersey? or your daughter who's number one in your heart?

Walton Verona is pretty darn good. They are rock solid at every position...probably one of the top five teams we will face during regular season play (counting the scrimmage of course). Bracken had two costly errors that could've ended two separate innings---WV capitalized on both. I guess that's the reason for scrimmages....to get over those rough spots and see what you need to improve on. The Lady Bears will be fine this year. Bracken beat East Carter in a scrimmage last weekend.

I don't have a dog in this fight, but I did want to say something in this thread. Last year, Bracken County played Campbell at the beginning of the season and in the regional tourney. They were a much improved team from that first game to that last game. I have no idea about this year, but it seemed to me that last year's coach made great strides with the team. A coach can only do so much; he can't pitch, hit, or make the plays---right?

Nope....RP is spot on. Looks like, Blackbear, you're seeing the situation differently because people tend to see what they want to see. Example: want to see negative= seeing negative.

I don't read the boys' threads too often since I am more involved in BC girls' basketball, so I'm a little behind in reading threads. Your beef is personal---not about the team or the program. This is obvious.

It will be no cake-walk through to a 10th region Class A title. Give those "pesky" Lady Bears a little credit...I'm sure you were sweatin' a couple times Saturday night. Brossart is and will be good....just hope you're not too tired from all the horn blowin' to enjoy the games. Oh, and my momma used to say, "Pride cometh before a fall" and she was one smart lady.

The score is definitely misleading. This game was a good one and was closer than the double digit win indicates. Bracken is doing well considering the loss of Sticklen. They also played this game without another starter, Wills who is a hard-nose, scrappy defensive presence. In this game, Bracken's point guard was plagued with foul trouble, but offense for the Lady Bears is coming around. Sticklen's shoes are big ones to fill, but these girls don't quit I like how hard they work Nice effort for the Lady Bears! Cummins led with 12 points, Conley had 10, Bell-9, C. Jefferson-7, Tarvin-6, B. Woods-4

The loss of of Sticklen definitely hurts Bracken, but she had a young supporting cast last year who matured over the course of last season and saw lots of varsity action. Aside from Sticklen and K. Cummins (both injured right now), the oldest players on the team are sophomores. Last year, those same players were 8th and 9th graders in the starting lineup and they won the Class A Region. Aside from Sticklen, their entire lineup returns, including their catcher and a pitcher with some varsity experience. With Brossart, though most of the lineup does come back, they have two big losses in Miller and Griffith--that will be hard to replace as I'm not sure if anyone else has much varsity experience on the mound or behind the plate. One never knows, however, what tricks Mel will pull out of his big green hat though It should be an interesting season.

Don't know that Nicholas lost many to graduation. They are a good hitting team....beating them won't be easy for any club that's for sure.
