No--It's the smallest 125 now, and formerly 425 or less in grades 10-12 (co-ed)====213 or so boys. CCH equates to about 1000 enrollment co-ed--Sorry!!

I'd heard similar, that there were several "louder" fans behind him; but don't think he was just sitting on his hands either? Either way, officials need to not allow themselves to get caught up in carrying on a discussion with abusive fans; but rather report the offenders, and let the proper authorities take care of the situation. Fans, for their part, need to heed an officials' warning, and not continue to run their mouths without expecting an early exit.

Logic might be a good criteria here?? My question to all on here who seem to be mostly complaining about the tournament's designation of All "A", why must everyone follow football's designations? Common sense would dictate that crowning 6 champions out of 220 participants is pretty watered down, but that's a topic for another thread in our politically correct, give everybody a trophy world. Maybe it would be wiser to view the All "A" committee's participants as similar to track where there is more of a small, medium, and large designation? The "smallest 125" still comprises only about 40% of the hoops' schools in KY, and while not as difficult as winning the Sweet Sixteen, still is much tougher to accomplish than a football championship vs. 30-some other schools?

So would you propose a 32 team All "A" State Tourney to follow the KHSAA's football guidelines? :confused: Agree the move to "125 smallest" is simpler than the previous criteria, and have no problem with the numbers. Winning a state championship should be difficult, and prevailing vs. 124 other teams, given the regional/statewide format, certainly meets that requirement!! Certainly agree this one is getting blown way out of proportion, but since you won't let it die...........? Having been at the game, and talked to those close by; there seems to be plenty of blame to go around. The BB parent was out of line, as was the NCC parent that got an early exit by the police (in the 1st half); and no excuses should be made when adults act like children. The outburst at the end was incited in no small part by a very hard (and unnecessary) foul (its called a takedown in wrestling) with a few seconds left (NCC down by 5), which obviously hadn't died down when the players exchanged greetings in their lines. Quickly contained by both staffs and nearby fans, and yes there was some verbal sparring by the NCC HC and some of his staff (no one was ejected); but one assistant in particular helped calm the entire situation on both sides. A side note after the incident was another NCC parent (related Mom??) tried to keep things going but was moved along as well. And we wonder where the kids get such behavior?? Unfortunately this was a sour footnote to an otherwise very entertaining basketball game, and not nearly worthy of the play its getting here and on other sites. It's always a bitter pill to swallow for fans when their prohibitive favorite team gets upset; but when its a rivalry game, it seems to get magnified. This was quite evident in the behavior (and language) both in and outside of the gym after the game, and the shame is that it was mostly "adults" (and many older "adults")? As UKM says, much ado about nothing!!

Can honestly say I've never heard of a "small school" or "large school" conference in NKY, unless you refer to the NKAC Divisions I, II and III? If so, I'm pretty sure NCC didn't win the NKAC Div. II this year??

Funny that with all the arguing that there are too many "bigger schools" in this event; the team that has had the most success in this tournament (University Heights) is among the smallest in the state??

For what it's worth: Boy's--Heath, West Carter and Edmonson County are 3-A in football Girl's--West Carter, Monroe County and Sheldon Clark are 3-A football All this means to me is there are too many classes in football??

Not sure how the tourney has changed much since it went "statewide", from the early years of being a regional event? The enrollment criteria had remained constant at 425 students (co-ed) or less in grades 10-12 since they expanded to include the entire state; and the numbers of participating schools has been in the 115-130 range for years if I'm not mistaken? They adopted the "smallest 125 schools" rule a couple years ago to simplify the situation, but as some small schools consolidated, the participants may have changed a little? If you think about 425 in grades 10-12, that equates to 560-580 range for 9-12, which is where the larger schools are currently? Why would it be good to "get rid of it"??

They may be, as I said I honestly don't know the enrollments. Shelby Valley is 2-A in football, but several All "A" participants are 3-A in football; so I'm assuming SV isn't the largest?

My only question here would be, would that even matter? I'm not sure whether or not any of these "larger" schools have won the tourney recently? I really have no idea, but can't remember any at the top end of the size-range winning?

Not sure this applies this year, but a school can opt out of playing in the "A" if they choose. I believe Lex Cath for one did so after winning the tourney years ago, while others may not have the numbers to field a team every year?

It's kind of hard to answer your original question, as in many ways the tourney has grown significantly since it's inception. However, due to that growth it has made winning this event much more difficult; and I would think all the more significant, especially when a smaller school manages to win? The All "A" is a great event IMO and gives the smaller schools, many who will never get the opportunity to make it to Rupp in our one class system; something to play for and aspire to, year in, year out. The format of having to first win your region, and then win four games in four days at a collegiate arena; make it as close to a two class system as we may ever see in the Commonwealth. The move to the 125 smallest schools seems to be a positive change, in that it simplified the eligibility requirements; as the tourney had grown to that size already under the former rules. The only current drawback I can see is that by following the state's designated regions, several regions end up being very small with only a handful of teams, due to the lack of smaller schools in that given region. Other regions, such as the 9th, end up being much more competitive than others; but that probably holds true for the Sweet Sixteen format as well. Best of luck to all the teams that have earned the right to represent their regions at EKU, and take time to enjoy the experience!!!!

NCC's JV's won 36-28. Freshman Schulte looked very good leading them in scoring with 16. Brossart Freshmen won 45-27, in a game that probably wasn't that close. Congrats to Coach Mike Schack for notching his 100th career victory with the BB frosh.

Don't think NCC"s coach was ejected, and certainly not before the game ended? NCC adult fan (player parent) was escorted out by Alexandria's finest early in the game--No clue why. All else was he said, she said; but it was a spirited, physical game, which I'm sure NCC expected to win handily? Hat's off to the Mustangs for not giving up and pulling off the upset!!

First--Congrats to Pendleton on the road win--Monroe is the real deal!! You may be right, but if so, they better get them back in Alexandria by Friday night or it could get ugly?? For what it's worth, the last Brossart team to lose to PC before heading to Richmond (and that one was a huge upset) ended up having a pretty decent trip to EKU!!

Slightly off topic, I wanted to congratulate the entire Brossart BB Family on pulling off a first class event in the 10th Region All "A" tourney!! Despite the complaining and many naysayers prior to this event, it was as good as any I can remember. Nice facility, fair price, very nice hospitality suite, free food for the teams after each game, etc. Congrats to Mustang, the BB parents and administration on a very nice event!! :thumb:
