  1. Back to this game. This was the first time I have seen Woodford County this year and I wasn't surprised they played with Scott County. They are disciplined and run their sets. If you can run good stuff against and not allow Scott County to interrupt the flow of your offense, you can score against them. Offensively, I thought Scott County took some questionable shots. Plus, they struggled against the 2-2-1 press of Woodford County a few times, which seems to be an issue for Scott County, particularly when they play Lexington Catholic. Having said that, I never had a feeling watching the game that Scott County was going to lose. Impressed (as always) with Greenwell for Woodford County. The sophomore, Boggess, showed some moxie but also was a little bit over the edge on a couple of occassions, but he composed himself nicely in the end. He looks like he is going to be really good. Young, a transfer from Scott County, had a real nice game both offensively and defensively. For Scott County, Manning struggled offensively in the first half (I believed they announced 2 for 10), but finished with 26. Still would like to see him settle for 3's less. He is hard to stop when he is going to the rim under control. Ivey had an off night, but give Woodford some credit for that. Woodford sagged in the lane and made it a little difficult for Scott County. Gilbert was able to get some open looks over the top to keep Woodford at bay. As far as Johnson. 2 things: 1. I hear he's coming back Friday and I hope he's truly ready. Looked to me (and everybody else) that he was limping even while walking. He does dunk during warmups, but comes down on his good leg. He has a bright future ahead of him and I hope coming back too early doesn't cause him to have to step back even longer as a freshman at Tennessee Tech. He is a great kid and I love to watch him play, I just hope he is doing the right thing; 2. I don't believe Woodford County is better than Scott County even with Johnson. He will definitely help on the glass, but offensively they didn't look to miss him last night as much as you would think. And, what I mean by that is they did what they wanted offensively. Of course, he will step in and score 20, but that doesn't mean Woodford County is instantly 20 points better. It will come at the cost of less shots for others. Having said that, can Woodford County win the 11th with or without Johnson? Yes, I believe they can because they are good enough to cause problems on any night.
  2. Yes it was very ugly especially early. Both teams seemed to be playing in quicksand the first quarter. Don't quote me but I believe Pendleton was 18 of 65 from field and Montgomery 17 of 47.
  3. I would ask why they took 21 threes if Whitman had 35. Give him the ball even more I would think would be the solution.
  4. Cantrall ratings aren't very good. For example, I think I read where Ballard played 4 games against in-state teams, which meant the rankings for the LIT put them No. 7. Yet, they are No. 2 overall on here. Not saying they shouldn't be No. 2, but just an example. With the 10th Region, Paris with and without Jacobs made a difference. For example, Montgomery played them with Jacobs and won by 10-12, while Clark County played them without and won by a huge margin. Since Cantrall ratings are totally no more than entering scores into a computer, that makes a difference. Having said all that, KY high school basketball is thankfully not the BCS and these rankings mean absolutely nothing!

  7. Would have been really, really tough anyway, but Scott County has to play the game without Isaiah Ivey, who was ejected in their last game for a retaliation slap on a player who fouled him hard in a blowout game.
  8. Franklin County is as good as they want to be IMO. They have the ingredients to make a run at the 11th as it is wide open this year. So, I personally am not too surprised with this result. Was more surprised with their West Jessamine loss.
  9. I heard he was ineligible (I assume because of grades), but I don't understand how you could play on Tuesday then become eligible on Thursday. I thought grades ineligibility typically lasted Monday - Sunday.
  10. I agree, he can play. But, if you would have watched the entire game, you would have realized his 26 points were very deceiving. He tried to do WAY too much throughout the game and took some simple awful shots and made some very poor decisions. He had 6 turnovers and multiple poor shots. Having said that, they have to have him do a lot to be successful. But, with as much as he handled the ball, one assist tells the story. Gilbert and Richardson combined to take 8 shots and they aren't going to beat any top team if that continues. But, in fairness to those two kids, they didn't get many opportunities to make things happen. Overall, though, Scott County was not going to beat Trinity anyway. Trinity is simple the better team, with more depth and more athleticism. I thought the final score was actually deceiving. I never thought after mid second quarter Scott County was going to win the game. And, that is not an indictment on Scott County as much as it is how good Trinity is.
  11. My opinion on Paris is simple: They have one of the top 3, if not the best, player in the region in Aaron Jacobs and on a given night when he scores 33 and some other kids make plays they can compete. The meltdown coincided with Jacobs going to the bench. Having said that, I believe Montgomery County would have still pulled it out (we will obviously never know). For those that don't think Jacobs is that good, if you moved him to Montgomery County or Pendleton or any team in the 10th people consider a contender, he would instantly make them the prohibitive favorite in the region. He's that good.
  12. Jacobs fouled out with 6 minutes left as well. Appears the 10th is even more wide open than everybody thought.
  13. When did 15 become almost 30? They led in the 4th quarter.
  14. Would like to be more polite but they are awful. I know they lost 9 seniors and returned 25 total points from last years team.
  15. He went to the prep schools in NJ and WV last year, then came back to Bryan Station -- I think in January. I saw in various newspaper reports they thought he might be able to gain eligibility in January. Totally a guess, but I bet that would coincide with him being back at Bryan Station for a year since the transfer rule forces you to sit out a year without a legitimate transfer -- changes of address and logical reason. Of course, he also went to a different WV school earlier this year for a very short period of time because that school was found to be a fraud. Not sure how they plays in.
  16. It said above Jones had 12 points and 5 rebounds. When you say he has to play, what do you mean? Appears he played significant minutes in this one.
  17. He is a freshman. Competely different player. He plays the post. He started against Scott County in a scrimmage and did a good job. Looks like he has a bright future.
  18. Scott County did open gyms 5 days a week in the pre-season and Portwood got burned out -- or that was the excuse he gave. I was shocked as well and hope to see him back on the court next year. He is currently playing in the local youth league, which is a total waste of his talents in my opinion. But, it is what it is. He would have played significant minutes for Scott County this year, but if you don't have your heart in it then it's better he's not there.
  19. Hundley had enough offensive sets last year that didn't involve Johnson as the only option that I doubt he has to change much, just run them more. Johnson was so good last year and such a mismatch, Hundley only had to run basic stuff that involved getting the ball to Johnson.
  20. Other 2 starters in scrimmages have been Gilbert and Harris. Developing depth will be key for Scott County as the season progresses. I think Ballard will be tough to beat in this one, but Scott County is a team that can do it. Scott County isn't ducking anyone this year -- their 3rd game is against Trinity.
