I agree that T,X, and Highlands would be competetive in other states. I dont know anything about Ohio, but I spent 4 years coaching in Tenn and these 3 schools would be very competetive against the Maryvilles, Alcoas, Fultons and Catholics of Tenn. But then again, the privates have their own league which I had lttle contact with and no knowledge of their strength. I would love to see a Highlands v Maryville game!!

I havent seen HHS play this year but I have seen them many times over the years. What Coach Hart said about them this year could be said EVERY year. Big, strong, fast, and athletic, with solid defense and great skill people. You could say something like this every time I have seen them. Outstanding HS football program!!

I order for Harlan to win a state championship, listen to this murder's row for 5 weeks. They would have to beat round #1 Allen Central, round #2 Pikeville, round #3 Hazard, round #4 Lex Christian, round #5 Beechwood (if the favorites win)! Tell me thats not a tough class A road!! However, Pikeville is winnable but the kids need to realize that it is a very tough place to play. Those people, both players and fans, expect to win and the sure wont roll over. Pikeville wont give it up, Harlan will have to take it! Places like Pikeville, Corbin, Belfry, Ashland, etc are what HS football is all about....if you beat them at home, you have accomplished something!!

I wonder when the last time a team from the opposite district beat Pikeville at Pville? I know Evarts beat them @Pville in 1990 but thats as far as I can go. Surely Harlan, Lynn camp, Cumberland, Pineville, Williamsburg, oh yeah, Middlesboro was in that Class A district for years...surely someone got them at home in the last 18 years? HDE?

Iwas wondering where you were at, Cat. I believe your pick of Allen Central last week gave them the kiss of death. I hope it is the same for this week. In fairness, I know its hard to pick basically any region class A team to beat Pville at Pville. We'll keep our fingers crossed!!:thumb:

Weeelllll, let me see! I was hoping not to see this page. Comparing recent scores makes one inclined to lean toward Harlan, but, having been around a while, I know all roads in the Class A playoffs eventually go through Pikeville. Regardless of recent history, Pikeville is still the premier Class A program in Eastern Ky. So, even if I thought Harlan, Im sure not going to say anything to load those Pville guns more than they are already. It should be a good one and I'll leave it at that!

He'll put it up this afternoon. It was a great story. The gist was Harlan finished 10-0-1 and didnt make the playoffs, Evarts won the conference by beating Lynch 31-19, and Lynch makes the playoffs due to the Dickinson System and they go on to win their 4th state championship. A lot of great players and coaches are interviewed....just an outstanding story on Harlan County football!!

Thanks for the info. I would have to have a CPA and a slide rule to figure out the system described. I really cant believe it can be as complicated as the examples made out. I respect Ohio football now even more for their Math skills!! LOL!

I was almost positive that someone in a previous thread said that everyone got in and there was some type of ranking system. I guess I was misinformed.

You may be right, but Allen Central allowed one td(I believe) against Pikeville. Harlan put 46 on them. I know comparing scores is dangerous, but this tells me something. This could be a good one. There's one thing about it. Harlan certainly knows the route to get to Pikeville. They have played them at Pikeville so often in the playoffs that the buses can probably drive themselves.

Someone explain the Ohio system. I know everyone gets in, but how do they pair them up?

You know that I was never in favor of the 4 team system. That being said, I can now say, after giving it great thought, that the Ohio system needs to be looked at closely with this six class system. If the regular season is going to be devalued, then lets go all the way and go with some type of ranking system and allow everyone in. It would make for better scheduling and travel, allow for natural rivals during the season to become even more important, and even allow possibly for the disolution of some of these silly 4 team districts traveling all over the state for district games. I would seriously like to hear your thoughts HDE. I respect your opinion as much as any coach I know and realize I say this after years of being against the 4 team system!

I dont think their was what I would consider a real upset. We throw that term around rather loosely. The closest was Highlands/BS. That would have been an upset! Congrats to Highlands and the BS kids...both should be proud!

Ive still never forgiven you for years back when a radio guy from somewhere said he asked you if I would be an easy interview and he said you told him to hand me the mike and get out of the way, lol. Just an outsider looking in, but congratulations to Betsy Lane and your first playoff game. I love to see this happen. Hazard is a heckuva first rounder for you, but good luck to the Bobcats and Bulldogs!

That was, perhaps, a little overstated, but the intent was taken. The Dragons were written off for dead on more than one occasion this season and, with just 2 wins and 3 seniors, winning a playoff game could certainly be considered a shock. And, as any coach knows, you have to realize when you are talking to real reporters because they pick up on anything uttered (and you know who you are,lol)!!:laugh: Seriously, AC has had a great season with losses to district opponents and permanent playoff fixtures Paintsville and Pikeville, and, if Im not mistaken, the loss to Pikeville was by one point. They have had a great year and deserve everyone's respect!!

I hope that isnt the case this week, not that Im against Paintsville...I just hate to see a HS team fold their tent. Ive seen it many times and I cant figure out the thinking....why put on the gear and get on the bus if you arent going to play as hard as you can?
