Black and Barker will be tough Matchups for the cats, they dont have one person strong enough to chase Barker the whole game, they will have to use a couple of people and that probally wont be enough, Black is too big for them, maybe Mcdavid can slow him down, but Fairview is the only team in the Region that has a very good shot at putting 5 players in double figures against you :thumb:

I know that you have seen both teams, and that you have watched all of these kids grow up, but I think you may have gone a step too far on this statement.

 

Alex Barker is an excellent point guard, and his motor never stops. That said, I'd be willing to say that Matt Thomas or Adam Cannoy are more than capable of chasing him for the duration of a game. Barker will score, he will get his assists, he will break the press (passing or dribbling), and he will run the Eagles' offense - but he won't do so in a vacuum.

 

I'm sure that Flynn will use his normal rotation of substitutions, modifying it as the game dictates, but I doubt very much that Cannoy or Thomas are not capable of staying with Barker.

 

This game will be a dandy. If I had any spare body parts left, I'd sell something to get to this game. Will it be at Ashland, or will Fairview be the home team?

This will be a reuniting of former teamates, Cannoy,Wilcox, and Thomas all played with Barker at Poage, Mcdavid played with Barker on the Eastern Kentucky stars, they are all good friends, but, my point is no one can chase Barker the whole game and do a whole lot more, the normal matchup would be to put Thomas on Barker, if that happens, dont look for Thomas to get his normal average of points, you have to sacrifice something if your going to chase Barker all night, I would put a non-scorer on him, bring Wheeler off the bench some to spell, and probally have about a 3 man rotation on him, Thomas, Cannoy, and Wheeler, if Thomas guards him all night, and handles the ball, and is needed to score, I dont think he can physically do it, and if Thomas doesnt score double figures, the Cats cant win

Actually, I do really feel that Fairview probably has a great team this year, but not as good as Ashland can be if they play to their potential. No disrespect to the Fairview Coach, but I have also seen him choke many of times in big games and even small games. I seen him go winless one year, which consisted of 2 losses to Rose Hill, way before they even established a decent basketball team. Did I mention that Fairview had 20 pt leads at halftime in those games Like I said no disrespect to Fairview, just think Flynn will come out on top.

 

Now with that said, I would love to see Fairview pull one out, I have a lot of great friends from the Fairview system and love what they are doing at that school in B-Ball and F-Ball.

I think you are correct GP21, they will stay with Barker, esp if Thomas is guarding him. Barker is good, but not that good. The only player noone has an answer for is Owens from BC. And McDavid will be able to guard Black also. So look for Ashland to win this one, they seem to finally be getting use to the new system. Even though I would love to see AT41 get that tatoo :laugh:

By the way, what kind of Tattoo is AT41 suppose to get if he loses??

Holbrook is another Fairview Eagle who the T-Cats will have to contend with along with Hutchinson, Barker, and Black's scoring.

Make no mistake - Fairview is not a one or two man team. Also, I have to take up for Cooksey as a coach. I don't think anyone would confuse him with John Wooden (nor would he), but it's not like he is in the dark when it comes to basketball either.

 

Has he been outcoached from time to time? Absolutely - but then again, anyone who has been a head coach for any length of time has been - or they are lying.

 

Has he lost games that he should have won? No question - but he's probably won a few that he should have lost over the years as well.

 

Is he ugly? Well, sure - but so what?

 

Does he have a brother-in-law that's better left at home, away from the public eye? Again, an unqualified "Yes".
