theguru Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 Marvin Lewis was most impressed by Andy Dalton’s demeanor | ProFootballTalk There were many things to like about Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton in 2011. His boss was most impressed by something unrelated to arm strength or accuracy or size or smarts. “I think all along just his demeanor,” coach Marvin Lewis said Friday at the Scouting Combine. “As a couple people said to me, ‘He has it.’ You felt that about him. Nothing seemed too big. He seems to take almost everything in stride. His personality is one that’s very unassuming yet a very quiet demeanor, quiet determination and a resolve that he can do whatever it is.”
theguru Posted February 25, 2012 Author Posted February 25, 2012 The reason I ask the question is because I have it from a very good source that Andy isn't such a nice fellow off the field and that he leans on the arrogant side. Now Marvin could be talking about nothing but Dalton's football demeanor. Anyone had any experiences with Dalton?
Flotsam Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 Playing in the division where the marquee QB is Roethlisberger, the bar is set pretty low for Andy. If he stays out of the newspaper and wins games, fans will likely be pretty tolerant of garden variety arrogance. Actually haven't heard much one way or the other on Dalton's off field demeanor. Considering the chatter on Arroyo, Maualuga, Simpson and others, no news is good news.

Why, because he doesn't want to sign autographs and take 20 pictures with little kids when he's out to dinner? Or because he doesn't want to spend much time with some drunk 23 year old who thinks he's a better quarterback than Dalton because he was all-time QB growing up in his neighborhood football league?

ColonelCrazy Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 Or he could just be a jerk   It's possible. As a rule, most athletes have a certain "air" about them. It's part of what makes them good on the field. I'm sure Dalton is no different. All it takes is a few jerk moments...or a few people with an axe to grind.

Gotta be tough to be a professional athlete these days. Heck, with social media running rampant, it's tough to be a HS athlete. Microscopes are out at all times.

My source is a professional in every sense of the word. I hear he is a real jerk. Let me be clear, I don't give a rats you know what Dalton is like off the field, I want him to win games for the Bengals.

While I don't doubt Guru's source at all, I tend to lean toward RE a bit on this one. I have no personal experience with the guy at all, but RE is right about social media, and the ability it has to make anyone look like a jerk at any given moment. Most times, that's not the intention at all, but often when people enter into a situation with preconceived notions they can walk away with those feelings being validated in their minds for whatever reason. I'd have to know more about what exactly led you down this road before I could even begin to pass any type of judgement.
theguru Posted February 25, 2012 Author Posted February 25, 2012 Can you share any examples? Not without giving up my source which is why I asked if anyone had any experience.

I could definitely see that with him, especially the part about being arrogant. You could kind of tell he does have sort of a cockiness about him, which is not a bad thing at all to have on the football field. Honestly that usually is a good thing if used right, because that also means that person is a confident player. So would not suprise me if he was like that off the field too. It seems like most top QB's have a cockiness to them, and I remember hearing from some people on how Boomer also was not the most likeable guy to be around off the field when he was here in Cincy.

While I have no experience with Dalton, I did have interaction with Boomer when he was in town. I can tell you this couldn't further from the truth, in my experience. He was articulate, accessible, a pretty good guy.

Which may be true, but I am just going by a few people who had the chance to hang out with him and that is what they told me. Obviously people always have different opinions of people, so he really may be a great guy too.
malachicrunch Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 I'm failing to see the point here? Just win baby!
