February 21, 201214 yr REALLY? UK fans drive me crazy. They have the largest margin of victory in NCAA because they have not played anyone. They beat Kansas in the first game of the year and barely beat INC, other than that they have not played anyone. The SEC is a joke and should be fined for trying to pass themselves off as a conference. They have played decent high school teams. Congrats! Ridiculous. Really?? Really? Gimme a break.

I will agree that Louisville is a middle of the road high school team.

The SEC is down, even for its own standards, but Kentucky has out of conference wins over Kansas, North Carolina, Louisville. Not too shabby, even though two of the three were at home. Kentucky's conference schedule is definitely back loaded. I think they'll lose one of their final four conference games (quite possibly tomorrow night vs. Miss. St.). And quite frankly, I think it'll be a good thing for them.
February 21, 201214 yr Question, be honest. If you had an 18 year old son who was the top player in the nation, would you let him play for Cal if he wanted to, or would you try to persuade him away from Cal? Kids love him and he relates to them so well (I think that is his biggest strength). He sort of reminds me of the "Horse Whisperer" in human terms. Let me know what you think. Tough question, and a lot of variables would go into that decision. As someone who places a great deal of value in education, I would want my kid to go somewhere with a better academic reputation where I know they're going to receive a good challenge in the classroom. If the kid's good enough, they're going to get noticed by the pro scouts no matter where they are. Now, if my kid is a rockhead with limited chances for a high-paying job outside of basketball, I'd probably bite the bullet and send them to a basketball factory such as UK. But at the end of the day, I don't have kids, so it's tough to say for sure unless I was presented with the reality of that situation.
February 21, 201214 yr You're free to ignore just like everybody else. Thing is, you guys can't resist. It's like shooting fish in a barrel with some of you. I enjoy intelligent conversation, particularly when it provides a different perspective from my own. There have been quite a few people firing at you in this thread (which I'm sure you love ), but you never answered my question (see post #62). Do you honestly believe this Kentucky team has underachieved?

Do you honestly believe this Kentucky team has underachieved? In the big picture, of course not. In spots, yes. I'm just saying that if I'm a Wildcat fan, I would be concerned about the drifts in concentration coming back to bite the 'Cats at the wrong time. Kentucky is an outstanding team, but they're not somebody who can get away with just turning it off and on whenever they feel like it in the NCAA tourney. If they struggle against crummy SEC teams, it doesn't go a long way toward striking fear in the hearts of potential NCAA opponents down the road, and an underdog who believes is a very dangerous thing.

What you're saying applies to EVERY team in the tournament EVERY year. The thing that is scary about this Kentucky team is that, even on an off night, they're still going to defend. They may struggle offensively in a half court, slow it down, drag it out type of game that you frequently see in March, but they'll still get after you defensively. Do you have a particular game in mind when Kentucky drifted in concentration? They struggled in the 2nd half against Vandy.

What teams can just turn it on and off whenever they feel like it in the NCAA tournament? Most teams that make the tournament are pretty decent teams, especially when you get past the 1st round. Any team is in danger of getting knocked out early if they don't play up to their potential.
February 21, 201214 yr Author Man... I'm setting the crazies off in this thread. Must be doing something right! All they've got is incorrect information, name calling, and zero facts. On a side note, I guess we've found those two 1st place votes that Kentucky isn't getting in the AP poll!

I think a lot of teams have to worry about this. As an avid UK fan, I'm much more concerned about something very unique to this year's team, which is Anthony Davis getting in foul trouble. This team has looked its weakest when he's been saddled with foul problems. Equally concerning is something that has become a pattern for Calipari coached teams in the post-season: free throw & perimeter shooting.

Sorry to move your post around, but I did it to make it easier to reply to both you and LRCW. The Auburn and Tennessee road games are two that immediately come to mind. If either of those teams were half-decent, UK would be sitting with three losses instead of one. Obviously, the Indiana game is another one. That's all fine and dandy. My point is, if Kentucky is going to hang No. 8, which I think they are the clear favorite to do, they are going to have to play better, especially since they've been flattered by a steady diet of terrible SEC teams lately.
