Careful there Falcon. Learn what it took me forever on BGP's to figure out and that is that you just can't use the "R" word on here without getting yourself in a whole lot of hot water. Thanks - I will try not to use the R word again. It actually may not be an accurate reflection of what usually happens anyway and the R word is used for all such occurrences of getting talent. I would have thought the readers would be a bit less sensitive and tougher but, to keep the masses happy, how about "differently enabled" rather than the R word? Is that not a correct characterization of how private schools can gather talent? They are enabled to do things public schools cannot do. They are not hampered by locale and moneys can flow to support desired talent. Not picking on any one school at all, just being honest. Should I be careful not to be honest in the future?!? (Maybe yes - it seems like after 3 posts that I have already offended at least one gray-beard expert who has an issue and considerable experience.) :walk:

The last thing I wanted to do was get into was a Mike Herald bashing contest and most of what I know will go unsaid on BGP.

 

Calling Mike Herald a MENTOR actually turns my stomach and surely the stomachs of more than a dozen or so people who have been involved with his program for the last 2+ years.

 

You obviously do not know or do not care about what happened last year.

 

Mike Herald made a lot of enemies at Beechwood with his treatment of some good "BEECHWOOD" kids something that could and may be keeping fans out of the stands.

 

"Mentor" maybe he has learned from his mistakes, but until he makes an effort to right his wrongs of the past, all his wins with Michael Romes will not make a difference.

Every Xmas break, the past players would come to practice to see Matt Bohmer.

1st off since everyone is welcoming you back I suppose I'll do the same. If you go back and re-read my post I said small PUBLIC schools and the last I checked Holy Cross is a Private school. We have all had this discussion before and no reason to go down that road again but as I've said before schools such as HC, St Henry and Bishop Brossart although considered small school have the ability to shall I say "acquire" players in a way that isn't available to small PUBLIC schools. :ylsuper: Oh and back at you :banana:

 

And the small independents never "acquire" any athletes--See football?? Can't speak for HC, but I think if you check the rosters of BB and St. H you'll find all the kids from their feeder parishes!!

:laugh: Oh please, don't go getting all full of yourself. They have a very good team this year and hopefully their fans will start to appreciate it soon before it's to late. Much like Ludlow the last few years they have some very talented players but unfortunately at small public schools it is almost impossible to sustain. So enjoy it while you can.

My point is it's a lot easier for a small school to field a competitive basketball team than a football team, if only due to the sheer numbers involved. Beechwood wasn't always the football power they are today, and there's no reason to believe if the commitment was there (ie: good youth teams and coaching, get some football players out for bball, etc.) they could field a competitive basketball team as well--It's worked in baseball??

No but you imply that private schools do not draw from districts or that public schools cannot draw from outside their districts and neither is always true. That is what gets people's dander up.

Sorry if in a discussion of Beechwood and Holy Cross, when you refer to private class "A" schools cheating, I assumed you were referring to NKY schools--Wow, what a stretch?? FYI there are several class "A" private schools in the area, and many have successful sports programs that have nothing to do with any illegal activity!! Your comment that "a private school can sustain (a successful program) since transfers can come and go through a turnstyle with little attention to anything improper" is both false and accusatory!!

 

Again, for your information public and private schools are all subject to the same rules under the KHSAA and as a supporter of several private, and a couple public institutions; I take offense to your suggestions that these schools are out offering what amounts to scholarships to talented athletes. I'd suggest you contact the KHSAA if you've got evidence of such activities!!
