Josh Hamilton has alcohol relapse.

I don't know if you're joking or not on this one, but if you're not, I wish I'd have heard more about it in advance so I could contact Bree Olsen and Jayden James to go visit him and force his hand (or something else).

Didn't the judge order you not to try and contact them anymore?

Why do we feel so happy about another person's downfall?
Not sure. I think a lot has to with people believing Hamilton's was all a front to begin with. With Tebow some are openly rooting for the guy to fail.

Yeah, I think the two situations are very different. When people see someone being credited for something that they aren't, they enjoy seeing the truth unveiled. I don't whether Josh Hamilton is legit or not, but I do know some say he isn't.

With Tebow, I think it is a few things. First, he seems like he's too good, too nice. Second, point number one gets talked about and highlighted a ton. Third, he was successful in terms of winning, yet played the QB position horribly more often than not. Just like people want to see Hamilton exposed, they want to see Tebow exposed. But, to pay a little tribute to the Bible, winning covers a multitude of flaws. I think people root against him for one or all of those reasons.

I wonder if he was singing red solo cup with getting smashed!

I watched Herren's story on ESPN 2-3 weeks ago. So sad to have that much talent and just let it go to waste.

That was the best 30 for 30. As for alcohol, I wonder how many of us have a dependency on it. I've really been pondering this. I used to have a drink a couple nights a week and think it was no big deal. Now, I drink once a week, generally about 3 drinks. However, even though it is one night, I almost have to have those couple of drinks. I think that that is dependency to a certain degree and many folks, and I'm more familiar w/ the Catholic community, are that way. If I'm feeling like that, and I've never been to the point where Hamilton went, I can't imagine how difficult it is for him. ESPECIALLY as a pro athlete. What happens when the fame leaves and it's just him, his family, and his money? I have a feeling that his life after sports is going to be tragic.

At the root of it, people are jealous of Tebow. Everyone wants someone to be flawed like they are. The next level up is the media just destroying any hope that people can take Tebow seriously.

I've looked at him away from all of that. I watched how he handles the scrutiny that he plays under, and JUST LIKE CAM NEWTON, I've come away amazed at their ability to handle public and professional adversity. Both of those guys played the best that they could under the circumstances. I believe that their characters have been revealed, and I truly believe that Tebow is what he is projecting. It would be fantastic if the media didn't need to find stories 24 hours a day. Then maybe the rest of the public would not get sick of having Tebow rubbed in their faces and would appreciate that a person w/ strong faith, is struggling at a high profile position. He's doing his best, but probably won't be the QB in Denver past next season. He is handling all of that with humility and dignity.

Not at all jealous of Tebow, I just don't like what he stands for. I consider Tebow to be tragically flawed.
I guess. But what was his actual addiction? Alcohol? Pills? Coke? Smack? Crack? All of the above?

I haven't read his history thoroughly, but from what I have looked at, I think it actually is all of the above.

In all honesty, I truly hope Hamilton can find sobriety as drug addiction is a crippling "disease". I just don't think he is a very genuine person and possibly has never really been completely sober. To me he uses his "sobriety" as a way to garner attention.

Not sure on the pills or smack, but he definitely used Alcohol, Coke, and Crack.
So true RP. Chris Herren threw a shout out to Josh tonight. A day at a time.

I watched the story on Herren too. It was brutal & I kept begging for him to avoid a relapse. I've dealt with a handful of people who struggle with these types of addictions & in every case but one (that I can think of), there was a relapse.

Not sure on the pills or smack, but he definitely used Alcohol, Coke, and Crack.

I didn't remember anything about pills either. Those three you mentioned are the ones I was aware of.

:thumb: I'm not happy he has a problem but he's been exposed for the fraud he is a number of times. He might have moved past the drug part of his problem and I hope he has but the stories about alcohol have been around.

I should add that if Hamilton wants to drink, do blow, or hit the crack pipe that is all his business. But don't turn around and wave your sober flag at the first reporter who comes your way the next day. Or release statements about avoiding the champagne celebration when you clinch the pennant.
Dang. I was hoping to start the thread so I could upset the Bible-tossers. Oh well. Guess I'll still hold out for Tebow's fall from grace.
WE all Sin and fall short of the Glory of God. If we have claimed we have not Sinned we make him out a Liar. God have mercy on me a Sinner!
