Voice of Reason
I was told Estrella for Beechwood missed an open 3 at the buzzer. I wasn't there but will try to get more details.

Voice of Reason
Apparently it was a pretty close game throughout with the biggest lead by either team 7 or 8. It was a one point game going into the 4th quarter. Beechwood got up by 5 or 6 about halfway through the quarter. Then Boone made a run and went ahead by 5 with a couple minutes to go. Beechwood got it down to 2 with 15 seconds or so to go and forced a turnover with their press. Vocke got the steal and was driving for the tieing basket but Downs drew a charge. On the inbounds play, Stanley was fouled and missed both free throws. Beechwood pushed it up court and Estrella was wide open on the wing but missed the 3 pointer with a couple seconds to go. Sounds like it was a great game all the way with Beechwood playing perhaps their best defensive game of the year. Cruse had a big game scoring and rebounding. Maus did a nice job on defense against McQueary. That's all second hand so if anything is incorrect please go right ahead and post corrections or more info. Maybe Beechwood has finally turned the corner and is putting things together.

Qryche11
Nice effort by the Beechies? Boone seems to be winning some close games lately.
B-Ball-fan
Just curious... Is Beechwood getting better... is Boone not as good as billed or did they play down to opponent's level... was this a fluke or a true representation? The 9th is so hard to figure this year. Dixie and Holmes both played Lloyd close while Dixie killed Holmes. Dixie had to come from way behind to beat Lafayette while CovCath didn't have nearly the same struggle to beat them. So many examples of this perplexity this year. Any given night seems to be full of surprises. Will the cream undoubtedly rise to the top come Regional tourney time or is this a year of a possible dark horse? ???????? So far it seems that nothing is a given. My gut is telling me that when it's all said and done, Dixie will be on top, but I wouldn't dare bet my life savings on it. :idunno:

This is their best outing seemingly in a while.
Voice of Reason
Beechwood has lost 4 in a row and played perhaps their worst game of the year on Tuesday night versus St. Henry. And then they played perhaps their best game of the year versus Boone. Cruse getting 26 in the Boone game tells me he is finally getting healthy and in basketball shape. Same with Nussbaum scoring in double digits twice in the past week. So maybe the football guys are finally into basketball form? Perhaps it was a good matchup for Beechwood versus Boone? Maybe Beechwood just had a great night? Beechwood has Bellevue and Villa Madonna in 2 of their next 3. Watch those scores and we will see if Beechwood is truly getting better. I think it has been 3 or 4 years since Beechwood's last loss to a NKAC DIII school. That is why they moved up to a DII schedule.

Granted Boone can get to the basket in a hurry. This great effort by the Tigers just adds another threat to someones "lock" for post season play. That observation is probably more about it being Beechwood's best defensive effort. The Tigers are giving up 64 points a game and just allowed a very average St. Henry team to score 79 on Tuesday night.

Walter
Boone isn't playing anywhere near as good as they were at the beginning of the season. I can understand the Ryle and Conner games being close from the rivalry aspect, but no reason this should be a 2 pt game...and I mean no disrespect to Beechwood with the comment. Things don't get much easier for the Rebels with Holmes on Tues and playing Highlands in am afternoon game Sat.

But also feel Beechwood is playing better too.
