Newport Central Catholic 50 Simon Kenton 49 OT ( JV Tourney )

Recommended Posts

After yesterdays two All A final's games I can't believe I watched another great game tonight. The The Quarter-Finals of the JV Tourney at NewCath. Simon Kenton opens the game on fire racing out to an 18-7 1st quarter lead, all by way of the 3 (6/6). The second quarter they hit 2 more but the Breds chip away and it goes to the half SK up 26-19. Then the Breds make their move in the 3rd, aided by a strong defense and great play from Dupont, Pangallo, & Schulte and draw within one as the 3rd quarter ends SK 34-33. NewCath takes the lead 40-38 with 1:32 left in the 4th and the ball, only to lose it under their own basket. After Dupont misses a contested lay-up on a nice drive and Schulte was pushed out of bounds (blown call). SK goes down and scores to make it 40-40 with :46.8. NewCath goes right down and Colin Dupont drives the lane makes the basket and is fouled, NC 42-40 :19.1. He misses the FT, SK goes down scores and NewCath losses the ball at thier end. SK's long desperation shot at the buzzer is off and we head to Overtime knotted at 42.

In OT NewCath takes a 4 point lead only to watch it disappear, Breds up 47-43 with :53.0. Then disaster, SK defense creates a steal for 2, a turnover and was fouled, makes 1st, misses 2nd, long rebound and they find the open shooter who drills yet another 3, SK up 49-47 with :20.8. Newcath calls timeout to set up final play and almost doesn't get the play off, but they find Jake Haas in the far corner who lets go of a "rainmaker" and NOTHING BUT NET at the buzzer. The Breds win to take on CovCath vs. Scott winner in the semi-finals (time TBD).

I wish I knew who the SK players were, they can stroke the three ball.

JV tourney in N KY is one of the toughest tournaments to get info on.

So according to Lawnie - Cov Cath vs. NCC in the finals. Now I'm confused. Not that they are a great JV squad, but Highlands has played 2 games in the tourney, and won both- so when were they eliminated?

Don't know, I thought this was a quarter-final game, but after the game I was told it was a semi-final and NewCath and CovCath were in the finals.

Can we get box scores for this game? I'd love to know who the SK shooters are and last time I saw NCC JV's Schulte was only varsity and they had 2 kids with ties on sitting on the bench that looked like they could contribute.

The two on the bench in ties were serving a suspension.

Don't think Schulte has been playing varsity only since the first couple games of the season, in early December.

CovCath plays Scott tonight in a JV Tourney game. I think there may be a few more games to play before the finals participants are decided.

Does anyone have any more information on the JV tourney they could provide?

I got my info from Brady's (Hightchew) dad. After the game we were talking an he asked Coach Pangallo and he said Newcath vs Covcath in the finals, my apologies if this was incorrect. I will agree there has got to be better info put forth about this tourney (Bracket, times, and places).
