Youth Football

Back on my soapbox. Just saw the NKYFL youth schedule. 3 scrimmage games (1 got cancelled over the weekend due to weather thank goodness), 10 regular season games and playoff games at the end. Those 2nd/3rd graders will be in pads and hitting more than your average HS team.

So are you saying they should hit less?

Totally agree. Throw in the numerous starter level "bowls" and some of the 6-7 years olds will play 15 or more games. The NKYFL season is too long with too many games. No reason to start practice before August 1st or have the season stretch past late October. And if you watch some of these practices there are teams that hit every practice, or do live tackling drills all season.

I believe this age group should be learning fundamentals and developing skills that will enable them to play the game safely as they get older. 13-15 games and practices 4 days a week is way too much. They should max out this schedule with 10 games, starting end of August with practices starting two weeks before a scrimmage game. 8 regular season games is plenty.

4 days is to much for the parents. The kids need the exercise it is good for everybody to be outside for 2 hours. Plus the nice weather it is awesome.

South Kenton did pretty good today. Tomorrow they play the Erlanger Lions in a scrimmage at Thomas Moore starts at 9am.

Can't see a youth football league having the funds for a trainer/medic at each practice and game. It would be great if there were enough volunteers to do it though. Until then it's on the coaches and parents.

I bet the NKYFL and BCYFL have money coming out of their ears!

Isn't it shocking? I agree with you!

Don't know why you would think that.

But FYI- the BCPWFL does arrange to have an EMT on site during all games Saturday thru Sunday. Only way you could arrange to have EMT's or trainers on site during practices would be to have all teams practice at same location or max, two locations. That's just not feasible.

My son doesn't complain about all the practice and games he loves it.

What I would like to see is a financial disclosure document showing where the $ goes. Not saying anything is shady, just seems more 'open' if everyone knows whats up. In addition, I'd like to see declining balance statements from the accounts for purchases along with which two members authorized the spend.

I don't see why there's secrecy if its a not for profit venture to benefit kids.

Aren't all the financial records printed out and passed out to all the people who attend the monthly meetings?

Maybe. I went to one meeting eons ago. If you subtract coaches/coaches wives/team moms you were left with 10 or 12 people of the potential 500-600 parents.

Just because you don't/can't go to the meeting doesn't mean you aren't interested.

A lot of kids don't mind and won't complain, but that's not the issue. The issue is the season is too long, and many practices involve too much contact. No need for 6-12 year old kids to play 14 or 15 games.

Yes.
