Great start. Now certify them in heat management, assign a trainer/medic to each practice/game and focus more on teaching and less on winning at all costs.

I'd recommend that south Kenton work with the SK staff to get a training similar to what the KHSAA has mandated for HS staff members.

Most of these programs practice all levels together, same field and same time. A trainer for those two hours per day/3X a week is well worth it if you cannot find a volunteer.

 

Money well spent IMO. I'm more concerned with heat than injury this time of year. That training should be mandatory NOW.

Seems reasonable that four or five teams practicing on the same day/time would require 2 or so hours of coverage per day instead of 8 or 10 hours per day, making it less expensive.

True, less hours would be needed at the same time that the cost could be shared among the teams rather than each team bearing the full cost for it's practices. I think it's a good idea.

Heat index readings are pretty readily available as are the charts (that give you the heat index based on humidity and temp). No you don't get onsite readings, but for the most part things will be close. It's really pretty simple...if it's close, call off practice. I also know, that several times over the last couple years, the NKYFL has called off practice for all organizations, even on some days where the schools ended up practicing.

I wish the Youth League in Frankfort (FYFL) hadn't been destroyed. Those were the best days back when my boys were young and the league was structured and actually went by the bylaws. It is in a sad shape now. So unfair to the kids that are in that age group. Really sad. I just hope it's not that way everywhere.

 

What's going on with FYFL? I believe Anderson Co has struggled some as well, at least what I have heard.

I know at least 2 South Kenton football coaches are EMT/Firemen.
