Tax protection?

I could care less. However, I also don't understand why a candidate isn't prepared for this issue when they run, nor why they care. Mitt Romney consistently touts America's free-market capitalism that allows a person to excel as one of the great things about this country, so why should he be hesitant to show people how much he has excelled under that system. I just use him as an example because he's the obvious name right now.

I don't think Clyde's questions have been answered. What do we get out of them? I would also be curious if anyone has decided their voted based on the candidates tax returns. Similar things have come up in the past with candidates college grades. Still, I have to admit to being interested when they're released.

Other than finding it interesting you are correct that I'm trying to decide how it may influence someone.

 

Secondly, $41M in investment income? I'd love to see the ROI of those investments.

And the beauty of that for Mitt Romney is the bulk of that investment income was capital gains, which is taxed at a max 15% rate.

Wonder if he's cashing out investments in order to supplement his campaign? Although I don't think he would give 7 million to charity if he were doing that.

I'm not sure of the actual value of the information, but like reality TV, I have come to anticipate seeing them.

If they expect Romney to show everything, they should expect Obama to show everything. But people who wanted to see a birth certificate were fanatics.

I think in fairness, regarding the birth certificate issue, the actual issue was that there was no precedent under which requiring a birth certificate to be produced publicly was ever required in the past as a requisite for running for POTUS. That was what the birthers were trying to do....make him produce it to validate his candidacy. If all presidential candidates are to be required to do so, I have no issue with the requirement.

 

As for the tax return issue, it's not a requirement, and I think it's ridiculous that so many act as if a candidate's personal life is our right to know....and I mean that on every level.

 

One thing interesting I learned from the candidate's returns this year (which isn't my right to know, but interesting now that I do), Romney contributes 10% tithe to the Morman church. Why is that interesting to me? Two reasons: One, it's nice to see that his faith is important enough for him to tithe to such a great degree. Honestly....I struggle to tithe that amount, and feel that I likely am not priortizing my budget correctly, based upon my values. Secondly, I had no idea tithing could be deducted. Or did I misread the information?

Really? There is a huge difference. Only idiots believed that BHO granny planted a conspiracy seed in Hawaii over 40 years ago with the birth announcement and that that the governor of hawaii was lying. It is just dumb and it is not the same thing.
