Had this one been played on Friday or Saturday I would have included it in the NKY weekly contest. Sounds like it was a pretty good game.

 

Interesting comment during the game thread about the Camels' PA guy. I have nothing against an enthusiastic PA guy; I figure that's why he works the games - the home folks like him.

 

My only complaints are that his commentary (and maybe this isn't a problem anymore) runs into when folks are shooting FTs; and he assumes that everyone attending the game is a middle-schooler that doesn't know the rules. But you will not get complaints from me if a guy vocally supports the home team.

Rice finished with 27, including 3 dunks.

 

McGovney finished with 28. Kid also scored his 1,000th point. Congrats to Nate.

 

Also Congrats to Sr Jared Martin of Holmes. Career high 20 pts tonight.

Man Im good....I called an 8 point win for the Dogs in the prediction thread.

Martin was the difference in the game. McGovney and Rice did what they do. Holmes got out to an 11 point lead midway through the 2nd and it stayed 5-13 point difference the rest of the way. Both teams probably played their average game. Holmes is probably a 5-10 point better team. Congrats to McGovney on his 1000th point.

Some details to the game. The Camels had no answer for the 'dogs down low as Rice and Knox scored easy when it was dumped in to them, Rice had 3 dunks in the 1st quarter. CC then began denying the pass down low and just didn't guard Martin. He made them pay by hitting 3-4 3 pointers. He had wide open looks. When McGovney got the ball he scored. The Camels stayed in the game by hitting 3's. They made a bunch. Not many fouls were called so late in the game it took a few times for CC to get the 'dogs in the bonus. Holmes did have trouble inbounding the ball the last couple of minutes as CC got a couple of steals and easy baskets. Holmes made their free throws down the stretch. The Camels hung tough throughout the game, but the 'dogs always seemed to have an answer. CC just needs more size to really be an excellent team. The 'dogs are piling up the minutes for their youngsters which will help them. They are going to need Englemon down the stretch and he looks like he is getting to be more of a factor. He played some good minutes for the 'dogs tonight.

Congratulations to the Bulldogs. Thought the Camels were a little tentative from the field, passing up several good looks from three point land early in the game. Camels lacking depth hurt them some as well. Camels had no defensive answer on the inside. The Dogs were just too much for them tonight.

I was pleasantly surprised with Englemon's pt and effort tonight BM. Seeing him in jv games he seems uninterested and has a poor attitude but he seemed rejuvenated tonight and we saw the same Chris that stepped up big down the stretch for the Dogs last year. Chris has the athletic ability and talent...he just needs to keep a consistent mindset.

 

As you said, Martin was the difference. He got several back side rebounds and easy putbacks just from going hard and crashing the glass. Love the effort this kid gives.

 

Palmer and Coston were solid tonight and both are getting much better with not turning it over. Bolden, Lewis, and Waller also gave good mins off the bench. Total team effort tonight but it all started with Rice pouring in 12 in the first quarter.

 

For CC, McGovney was obviously the man but White and Holbrook also played well, hitting timely 3 pointers to keep CC within single digits. Just not enough size or athleticism down low to stop Rice, Knox, and even Martin and Englemon.

By the way the PA announcer was annoying. You literally could not hear the person next to you it was so loud. I don't mind the enthusiasm, but turn down the speakers.

Was there anybody there tonight? The game I attended had hardly any fans and I just thought he had the mike turned up for a big crowd??

Bolden is the real deal...I watched the iv game and he can do it all, good leaping.g ability, sweet stroke, nice handles and a good teammate...he will be huge later in the year for the dogs and its scary to think how good he will be as a senior it looks like he could grow at least a few more inches as well...Very impressed with the depth Holmes is building and the way they are growing as a team...Way better chemistry, enthusiasm and ball movement than earlier in the year...Rice, Palmer, Costin, Knox, Lewis, Martin and Bolden a looked very good tonight...Id also like to say im impressed with Herndon from JV and am surprised he doesn't see varsity minutes...

More people traveled to Harrison County Tuesday from what I heard, than were there tonight. Thursday's don't draw well at Campbell County. Holmes had a very slim crowd.

Bolden is indeed the real deal. It's amazing how developed his game is for his age. He can enter the game against ANYONE and hold his own. Kid plays with no fear. He reminds me a lot of Jamel Riley at the same age, only more talented and a little bit bigger. If he gets to 6'2 or 6'3, he will get some serious D1 interest. He is around 5'10-5'11 right now.

 

Herndon is a kid that was seeing varsity minutes at the beginning of the year but for whatever reason, hasn't seen the court much lately...same with Amison, who wasn't there tonight. Herndon is only a sophomore. His time will come. He is another impressive athlete that can really leap out of the gym for his size and age. Best comparison I have for him is Duran Jefferson with more athleticism.

 

We said at the beginning of the year Holmes is a work in progress. My guess is come region tourney time nobody will want to see them in a win or go home situation. Martin is gaining more and more confidence and it showed last night. Lewis is a nice change of pace defender and kid flat out gets up for rebounds. Englemon seems to be playing with more confidence which was HUGE last night. He gives Holmes more depth in the front court and is a nice asset to have off the bench. Palmer and Coston are improving every game and really taking care of the ball. Knox has started using his size and strength to his advantage and he is becoming a problem for opposing teams down low. Rice, well, when he is aggressive you saw last night what he is capable of. I really like the direction of this team heading down the "home stretch" of the season.

Senior guard Dontel Rice scored 12 of his team-high 27 points in the first quarter as Holmes beat Campbell County, 73-65 on Thursday.

 

Junior guard Jared Martin added 20 points for the Bulldogs, and hit all four of his 3-point attempts.

 

Holmes shot 54 percent from the field and 47 percent from behind the arc.

 

Camels junior forward Nate McGovney scored his 1,000th career point. He needed three points to reach that milestone, and he hit a pair of field goals in the first quarter to eclipse four figures.
