Rice with 27 and 9 last night.

Bolden is indeed the real deal. It's amazing how developed his game is for his age. He can enter the game against ANYONE and hold his own. Kid plays with no fear. He reminds me a lot of Jamel Riley at the same age, only more talented and a little bit bigger. If he gets to 6'2 or 6'3, he will get some serious D1 interest. He is around 5'10-5'11 right now.

 

Herndon is a kid that was seeing varsity minutes at the beginning of the year but for whatever reason, hasn't seen the court much lately...same with Amison, who wasn't there tonight. Herndon is only a sophomore. His time will come. He is another impressive athlete that can really leap out of the gym for his size and age. Best comparison I have for him is Duran Jefferson with more athleticism.

 

We said at the beginning of the year Holmes is a work in progress. My guess is come region tourney time nobody will want to see them in a win or go home situation. Martin is gaining more and more confidence and it showed last night. Lewis is a nice change of pace defender and kid flat out gets up for rebounds. Englemon seems to be playing with more confidence which was HUGE last night. He gives Holmes more depth in the front court and is a nice asset to have off the bench. Palmer and Coston are improving every game and really taking care of the ball. Knox has started using his size and strength to his advantage and he is becoming a problem for opposing teams down low. Rice, well, when he is aggressive you saw last night what he is capable of. I really like the direction of this team heading down the "home stretch" of the season.

 

Wasn't there a potter that was supposed to be good? The first thing that popped in my mind when I saw herndon was jefferson as well...Maybe Bolden can hit an Ant Davis type growth spurt lol...Is the Hill kid related to Austin?

I agree with Walter on his assessent of the Bulldogs. I will add that they just don't turn the ball over and pressure, generally, will not bother them. Colston and Palmer can handle the ball, as well as Rice when needed. If you press them hard the whole game, you better be deep or you will wear out more than they do. Bolden handles it well, also when he plays. It was a little out of character last night in the closing minutes when they couldn't get the ball inbounds a few times. They weren't coming to the ball and setting screens to get someone free. That will be taken care of I am sure with coaching. You have to give CC credit for their agressive play in the last few minutes. The other area where they have improved is their 3 point shooting. 47% last night will win them a lot of ballgames. If you pack it in to stop Knox or Rice, they can now make you pay from outside. Booher and his staff are priming them for tourney time. They may not be the best team (Dixie probably is) in the 9th, but they will have as good as shot as anyone to go to Rupp.

Potter and Covington are the other two apart of the "big three" in that Holmes freshman class.

 

Covington plays the 4 at 6'1 but has guard skills...just needs to refine and work on his ball handling a little. He sees a lot of JV time.

 

Potter, from what I heard hasn't played much lately but he is the one who has me really excited as far as potential goes. He is in the 6'2 range but VERY ATHLETIC. Not as talented as Greg Rice at the same age but his game reminds me a lot of him. I can see Potter being in the 6'4-6'5 range when he is a senior. Very long arms.

 

The soph class of Wilson, Herndon, and Hill combined with the Frosh class of Bolden, Potter, and Covington should excite Holmes fans. A lot of potential and talent among those two classes.

 

Wilson looks like a mini Terrance Jones. Looks dead on him as far as build and facial structure.

 

Hill, I believe, is cousin of Austin. He is already 6'5 and still growing from what I hear. Good shot blocker but can't stay out of foul trouble. Very nice athlete though.
