Interior offensive lineman and finding a playmaker in the secondary are no doubt the biggest needs to address. Then if they can get better at the LB and RB spot to it will also help. This offseason can shape the direction this franchise will be going in for many years. They have a lot of draft picks, and Mike Brown is going to be forced to spend money in free agency. Which we have to think the Bengals might actually be attractive to free agents for a change, since they do have a young talented team. It should be in interesting off season and draft.

I still don't trust Brown to do anything right. I think he was lucky this offseason and it won't happen again. He has done absolutely nothing outside of getting lucky that Dalton fell to them and getting extremely lucky that Oakland had a QB get hurt and Hue Jackson over-rated CP's declining skills. He loves drafting skill position players with known names early rather than what the team actually needs to improve.

^I'm not so sure about the schedule....Washington is a cupcake, so is Cleveland 2x, KC should be a win, so should Jacksonville and Miami. That's 6 games that should be sure fire wins. Then you've got home games against Oakland, Denver, NYG, Dallas, Baltimore, and Pittsburgh, and road games in San Diego and Philly. I think they, assuming improvement, should be able to at worst split those home games. They're looking at 9-10 wins again IMO.

We'll see. The cupcake Wash beat the Giants twice and they're now the sexy pick to upend GB and make the Super Bowl. Cleveland will improve and they played two very close games against the Bengals. They have as many or more picks than the Bengals because of the trade with Atlanta. KC will get their QB back. Miami was far better than the Bengals the last 6 weeks. They should improve and like everyone keeps beating into the ground they'll get an offseason which is a dumb argument because so will everyone else and Marvin is terrible so a lot of teams will benefit far more from the offseason than the Bengals.

When have I ever said what ails this team or the only thing that ails this team is Dalton doesn't have a strong enough arm?

Two of the best QB's who have played football in Montana and Brees have similar arms. Neither one of them had rocket arms, however what they both had was smarts and being able to anticipate when to throw and ball. Dalton does not have a rocket arm, but his arm is not as weak as Chad Penningtons either. I am not saying he will ever be as good as Brees or Montana, obviously he would have a long way to go to do that. However just shows you don't have to have rocket arms to do very well in the NFL. The arm thing is the thing you keep saying the most about the Bengals, so that is why it seems you think that his is the biggest problem for the team. People know he did not play great all year, and needs to improve on things. We all see that, however for a rookie we just were happy with what we saw from him, so there is plenty of reason to think he will improve in a lot of those area's he struggled in.

If the Bengals were going to suck, then this would have been the year. Having the youngest team in the AFC and second youngest in the NFL. Teams with veterans who were use to the NFL should have done better. Now this young team actually has an offseason and will get better. Yes other teams should get better too, however the Bengals were already better than those teams you mentioned. So there is reason to think that the Bengals will still be better after improving. The Bengals showed this year that they beat the average teams, and next year at the moment they play even more average to bad teams next year. The Bengals should improve enough to where they can actually hopefully when a couple games against good teams too. As I been saying there is more reason to be positive about this team than not at the moment. We will see how this offseason goes though.

His arm may prevent them from winning big. Is that not your statement?

Yes his arm MAY prevent them from winning big.

Or more simply put this team and franchise needs the best of the best playing QB to win big because they will never have the scouts in place to find the diamonds in the rough or to draft from the line out to make them great. They have never drafted a Pro Bowl let alone All Pro Defensive player that made that status as a Bengal so I don't see them winning because of Hall of Fame D players making up for the O. They will need to outscore the other good teams. They don't have a good enough medical staff. They don't have good enough coaches in every position because he won't pay them and their head coach is not good. It is my opinion to win big as a Bengal your QB has to be a stud that can overcome Brown. Not a pretty good smart guy that is a good leader. If and when Brown joins this century and gets better and more scouts, a GM, an indoor practice facility so they're not practicing in 20 degree weather for a playoff game that's taking place indoors, a bigger medical staff with more resources, and better coaches from the head coach all the way down I will believe that a smart leader is capable of pulling off a good postseason run in this city. Without that it will take a Peyton Manning leading the way and he only got one ring where he is.

^Geno Atkins is about to end that trend....

Yes he is, but he is going as an alternate. Better than nothing, but still a lot left to be desired as far as scouting good to great defensive players.

See I can understand your reasoning for this stuff, and I mean those are very valid points and it could cost them knowing this teams history. However this maybe just by luck is in its best position probably ever under Mike Brown. That is why this off season is huge with what they do. They could get this franchise on consistent winning track, or go back to the norm for them and back to losing. We will see.

As for the medical staff the Bengals did make changes on their medical staff this year. So it is not the bad medical staff from before that seemed to be horrible at diagnosing injuries, and allowed them to sign Antonio Bryant.

Geno Atkins and Dunlap are two guys who probably will end up making a lot of pro bowls. However they definitely need to do an even better job at finding more talented defensive guys, starting with this draft.

You're basically saying it's Brown that will hold the team back then. I would agree with that.

I'm also saying they would need a more talented thrower to win shootouts. Dalton may grow into that, I just don't think he will be that good. I think he's at best the 10th best QB in the league at any point in his career. That to me is his ceiling. Being that they drafted him 5th among QB's in just his year and in the 2nd round, to get the 10th overall QB would be a great pick. This team needs someone better than that to make a deep run.

Would you consider Carson Palmer as being higher than top 10 QB a few years back? #1 pick, Heisman winner, big arm. They didn't make amy kind of run with him at the helm. Why do you now think that type of QB would get them there?

Yes, they were in a good spot before his knee and arm injuries. However the draft of Pollack (freak injury), Thurman (fell to them b/c he was a headcase and that proved to be true), and Henry (exact same as Thurman) hurt them more. That's why I don't trust Brown.

That 2005 draft class ended up killing them. 4 guys out of that class was huge contributors their rookie years and that was Pollack, Thurman, Henry, and Tab Perry. Peko was also apart of it. However that 2005 year was the only year 4 of them really played. Thurman never played again, Pollack played one more game, Tab Perry one more game, Henry suspended half the time before his death. The defense was not good back then, however it did have promise and that all went away. Right now they have some key guys on the defensive line, if they could build up the defense more and find a playmaker in the secondary. Then they would have a shot to compete with the big boys. This off season is huge with how they will do.
