Walton Verona 60 Grant County 59

Featured Replies

Simply put another "IDIOTIC" statement.

Which part was idiotic?

Matchups? Walton has a height advantage at practically every position.

Experience? Walton won the 32nd District Tournament last season with essentially the same lineup. A few new additions this year.

Talent?

WV: I think most BPG account holders would agree McNeil and Hargett are both in the top tier of 8th Region players. Daniel Helton (transfer), 6'5, athletic, tough matchup for Grant. Kinmon (transfer), quick, best 6th man in the district when he isn't starting, quick pull up jumper, best passer on the team.

Grant: Hunt - good 3 pt. shooter, streaky, good rebounder, strong, plays hard. Carr - good 3 pt. shooter, quick pull up jumper, has slow feet, lacks a defensive presence. Coleman - athletic, quick, plays out of control at times, good rebounder, above average defender, has an ugly history of knee injuries. Hurley - plays hard, knows his role (give the ball to Carr and Hunt), prone to turnovers, in-your-face on-the-ball defense. Shipp - 15 ft. and in, nice jumper, good rebounder, not overly quick, plays within himself.

Grant runs a tough program with some great college prospects. (I'll be surprised if a top notch college doesn't hire Coach Hicks by year's end)

3 of you guys bash Grant and Coach Hicks every chance you get.

You continuously bashed Kinmon throughout this thread. Take a look in the mirror.

Grant Co. is on the rise and we all know why!

Watered down schedule?

You were on this side of the fence last year and previous years until things didn't go your way!

What side of the fence? Grant finished last year 9-20, of course it didn't go my way. What previous years? Do you have the slightest clue about what you're talking about? All that matters is winning, when that's taken care of I am satisfied. Hopefully, one day you will understand this. Possibly? Maybe. However, doubtful.

So to the true Walton Verona fans Congratulations on a great ball game and tournament championship

Are you saying I'm not a true WV fan? Ugh, I'm crushed. You're retorts are diminishing my holiday spirits, Ebenezer. I am somewhat caught off guard by your lack of class. However not surprised.

Your players will be known as the group that brought the program back from the "Train Wreck" that it was in

This is called a metaphor. However, it doesn't quite work in this scenario. If Grant County had been a train wreck then yes, your choice of words would suffice. I don't want to burst your happy bubble but I will anyways. I won't bash any players (unlike your animosity toward Kinmon) but Grant's team and the majority of teams in the state of Kentucky will sadly be forgotten unless they are lucky enough to play at Rupp. Players come in, they graduate, new players fill their spots. The cycle continues and always will. Most communities do not strive off HS athletics anymore but there are those "special" teams. Maybe Grant is that team, that would explain the overwhelming, warm tingly feeling in your gut. More than likely it's merely heart burn but there is always hope.

Kinmon is starting right now because McNeil has not been playing. When McNeil gets back healthy then he will be back in the starting lineup and his minutes will drop even more. My resentment is not towards Kinmon it is towards you madman and marvel for always bad mouthing our program. The players and coaches at Grant County work extremely hard and I think that it is starting to show with their play. They play as hard as any team that I have seen at Grant County in years.

Either you lack the powers of observation or you tell yourself what you want to hear. If you truely believe WV won't at least make the attempt to get Kinmon playing his best ball then you do have some resentment. Have you noticed Coach Trame has played deep in to his bench every game with numerous combinations of players on the floor throughout each game? Kinmon hasn't been taking McNeil's minutes and nor should he. By the time the district tournament comes around, WV should be very pleased with their fairly new addition.

Sorry you feel the way you do but I don't think you will find any of my comments in this thread that are bad mouthing Grant County. However, what does amaze me is your lack of knowledge about the Walton program and your fixation on Kinmon. I believe that the coach's drew up a play to put the ball in Kinmon's hands for a shot late in the game with the team trailing by one point. This doesn't illustrate that his role is diminishing. I know Grant works hard and that Coach Hicks gets the most out of his players. I have never disputed this. Walton and Grant will always be a war and it doesn't matter who has the most talent.

Wow! You guys are funny. There seems to be lots of resentment . Personally I think Grant wins the next 3 meetings. They are better than many believe and have room to keep getting better. WV is not any better than last year and I don't see them improving much by the end of the year.

Good luck to both these are going to be some great games.

You don't know what you think you know! Simply put another "IDIOTIC" statement. Normal people see what happens on the court, 3 of you guys bash Grant and Coach Hicks every chance you get. Walton won a great ball game to watch from a fans perspective. Grant Co. is on the rise and we all know why! You were on this side of the fence last year and previous years until things didn't go your way! So to the true Walton Verona fans Congratulations on a great ball game and tournament championship! To the Grant County fans, Great job, keep working! Your players will be known as the group that brought the program back from the "Train Wreck" that it was in.

I take offense to the statement the "Train Wreck" that the Grant County program was in. If i am not mistaken Coach Kinmon's last year at the helm the team won 19 games and beat Walton in the District and took Simon Kenton to the wire in the district finals. When he left at CHristmas the following year the team was 5-4 and had beat a quality Louisville Southern team in his last game. How is that a train wreck? Does Coach Kinmon have to take the blame for the administration making him quit in mid year when he got the promotion to a District Level position?

Coach Kinmon did a great job at Grant. To say that the program was a train wreck during his tenure is a FALSE statement.

The guy who is saying that has a weird fixation with insulting the Kinmons. It doesn't matter if its Ron or his little 17 year old brother.

Maybe is it just me, but doesn't it sort of seems strange that two teams have to raise a bunch of money, load up all their stuff, travel several hours and hundreds of miles away to have a heated, backyard-brawl type of game with their neighbor from only a few miles down the road? Now it sounds like it was an absolutely great game, but still ... all the way to Gattlinburg, Tennessee, for a game between district opponents? No big deal -it's just a random thought.

Would you give it a rest. I have not attacked a 17 year old kid, merely asked a question. Everything is not all about the Kinmons, Who cares.

BGCat this is not about the Kinmon's as much as it is you attacking them. Please answer the question, How was the program in shambles when the last year Kinmon was in charge and the varsity won 19 games, the JV was above 500 and the freshman was 17-3. I would not call that in shambles. YOu are the one that seems to have the problem.

By the way, who do you want to give it rest?

Why is this thread still open????

I heard that weak side. I wish we could all be good sports. Everyone should quit bashing the other. It goes both ways. Both teams are good and have heated, competitive games between one another. Most likely everyone with something negative to say about either Walton or grant can't just enjoy great high school basketball. This is comming from a 100 percent non biased opinion.

I think the best solution would be for you guys to meet at the waffle house in dry ridge for a nice meal and discuss your thoughts. Now that's FUNNY!

Why is this thread still open????

I figured the mods were busy with Christmas celebrations and just hadn't noticed it yet.
