I am definitely pumped about this movie. Been waiting for it for a while now since they announced that they were doing it. I loved the Lord of the Rings trilogy and have read the Hobbit.

Thank you for posting.

This was my child hood book that I read all the time. Cant wait to see it come to big screen.

What's the story line on the hobbit? I've never read it. I use to watch the cartoon movie when I was little all the time but haven't seen it in a long time.

Just read it. You can thank me later.

I'm looking forward to this one

The first time I saw the trailer for the following movie I thought it was for the Hobbit. I won't say the movies name just watch the trailer and decide for yourself if you could see how I thought it was going to be the hobbit.

If it's more than 2 paragraphs not much chance of it happening. I'm not sure I've ever read an entire leatherneck post on here. My attention span can be measured by Pitino's sexual encounters.

It's basically the story of Bilbo's adventure's which is the prequel to Frodo's adventure from the Lord of the Rings.

And of how Bilbo came to finding the one ring. The book is kinda more towards childern IMO but its JRR so its a great read.

Dusting this one off to note that since the time of its posting, they have split the movie into two movies, and now today announced it would be THREE. That's beyond ridiculous. The book is 310 pages. You can't tell me 310 pages requires 6-8 hours of film. Makes me think the world got off easy that this whole splitting movies fad wasn't around when the LOTR trilogy came out. I enjoyed them well enough, but jeez, Peter Jackson has to learn how to edit.

3 hours is plenty of time for the Hobbit. They are doing what every movie company can these days and milk movies for as much money as they can.

I feel like the the Lord of the Rings needed to be split on into three movies, but this sounds ridiculous and honestly will probably deter me from seeing it in theatre now, which I was really looking forward too. Having read the book, Jackson could have definitely gotten this done in one movie, even if it was three hours.

I can at least understand two movies. There are some natural stopping points and it's going to allow him to include some of the more interesting details from the book. Considering how much great stuff was left out of The Lord of the Rings even in three pretty long movies, maybe that's a good thing. But three seems like absolute overkill.

That said, the time period before The Lord of the Rings contains a lot of really interesting stuff and it may be that he fashions the trilogy into a more direct prequel to LoTR using some of that extraneous material from the trilogy that he left out last time as well as information from Tolkien's other works. The Hobbit was written so long before LoTR that it only glanced at the world Tolkien would create in those books. Maybe he'll draw those two closer together.

It is a dork read :D

We read it my Freshman year of high school I believe. Not a fan either though I like fantasy science fiction type stuff. Only so many movies though I can take about wizards, sorcerers, dragons, ewoks, etc. Since I did not like the book I had a disdain for Bilbo though I had never met the little fella. For some reason I thought he was much younger than what he was shown to be in the Lord of the Rings' movies.
