Until like 2 years ago it was listed as a cult on the Southern Baptist website, I'm looking right now to see it was moved to something called new false religions or something. I'm an evangelical/southern baptist my whole life, I know how we think. I also know what I've heard for years about the mormon church from more southern baptist than I can even possibly begin to name here. Every preacher in town was up in arms when an LDS church opened in our community when I was about 15, I would say the uproar I saw is nothing unusual in a lot of the country. You can say I have no evidence, but I've seen it with my own eyes. I'll also post some stuff later when I have time to look for it. Most if not all southern baptist leaders condemn the mormon church and it's teachings

I was taught in Sunday School class (while in HS) that Mormonism was a cult.

Clyde, that's precisely the thing that makes me hesitant about Paul. I don't agree with him on every issue, but that's the thing that holds me back.

I hadn't seen that before but it's very scary and if completely true it's a definite no vote from me.

That one is a new one on me, I've certainly been taught catholics were different in their belief system but I don't think I've ever heard someone say they aren't Christian.

There are now stories coming out about Ron Paul's newsletters he used to send out and their comments regarding blacks.

Well I definitely won't vote for Paul, but then again I wasn't a huge fan of Rand either. I believe the Federal Government does have a purpose on some level, the Paul's just want to shut every branch of it they can down.

If this becomes mainstream news, which I fully expect it will, then he is done. I personally don't think Paul is a racist FWIW. That could just be wishful thinking though.

From the title to the last word of the article, it's obvious the intentions are to completely tarnish everything about him. Same way with the article about Gingrich and giving his wife the divorce papers on her death bed. What the article failed to mention was his wife had requested they get divorced. So before you jump to conclusions, like 3 of you already have, you're proving a point that the media has too much control over this election.

 

If he said those comments, he needs to come out and apologize (if he is sincere) and explain what the deal was. If he didn't, and he has denied it during the '07 election, then I believe him. I find it comical when everyone says he isn't electable, but when he is leading the poll in Iowa, the media says it doesn't matter, it's impossible for him to win and they dig this up. The article doesn't even have a source as to where the newsletter came from.

Do I think it's possible that Ron Paul didn't read completely through every newsletter released under his name? Yes I believe it is POSSIBLE.

 

Is it likely? Probably not, hence my saying that I want to believe him. I didn't say I do believe him.

 

I also think it's possible for a person's views on a subject to change with time. I believe people who are racist can overcome that racism. Nothing I have heard from Ron Paul in the recent past communicates racism to me. Again, it is possible that he hides that fact. However, I personally believe that he is not racist. In the past? There's a chance that he was.

 

None of this really matters though, because regardless of what you or I believe, if the media gets a hold of this information then he is done. People are far too easily swayed by what the media says, whether it has substance or not.

Let me clarify. I'm no Bible scholar but I was raised in a Pentecostal church. John was preaching that "Ye must be born again to enter the kingdom of God." I do remember hearing that discussion more than once. One of my mothers best friends was raised Catholic and had joined our church. This was roughly 25 years ago. I'm not saying who is right or who is wrong.
