Coach Strong....says he's going.......

Featured Replies

I agree that UK fans did Tubby dirty, but I disagree with how he handled things in the end. Don't get me wrong, I really like Tubby.

C'mon...you think you're going to lose your job and you're not going to go looking before the hammer drops? Not me. I'm all over finding another job so I leave on my terms.

As long as UofL is in the Big East, the football job will always be a stepping stone job. That's just the way it is.

Maybe not anymore. :p

^Why not anymore? Adding a bunch of mid-major programs changes it how?

No silly. Read the article and the quotes from Charlie Strong.

^I read it. It's all coach-speak. If the Florida job came open tomorrow, he'd be on the first plane available to accept if it were offered to him. He'd be gone so quick you wouldn't have time to blink.

+++++>La La La La La La La La La La,++++++ I can't HEEEAAAARRRR you!

You guys are hilarious. He's saying exactly what he should say, and exactly what every other coach in the country says.

Again, I don't think he's going anywhere RIGHT NOW, but I promise his dream job isn't UofL.

^ I can agree with that. He'll leave eventually, but what coach wants to be anywhere near Penn State right now? And why would you want to be the coach at Texas A&M as they move into that brutal division? Give it another year and Strong is going to have a BCS Bowl appearance on which to hang his hat as he goes looking for another gig. If Muschamp has another nightmare season, Florida will come calling.

This is a funny thread. His comments are insulting to the intelligence of fans. No right-thinking fan would be mad at him for leaving for job he perceived as being better so why does he have to fill our heads with fan mush?

He's doing a really good job. IMO it will be rewarded by him getting better gigs and he'll leave.

UL fans will either be mad at him when he leaves early because of this:

“What our fans have to understand is you have a coach and we’re trying to build a program, so when all the noise in the system and all the rumors start, just don’t even focus on it,” Strong said. “Don’t even turn your attention to it. Nothing is going to happen.”

OR

They're being naive now for believing any of it.

^Getslow, the fact that he's an SEC guy, and would be stepping into a situation with very tempered initial expectations could be an appeal of A&M. No one there would be expecting him to win right away, and he'd be able to do a good job recruiting the caliber athlete that it takes to win in the SEC. I personally think A&M is a pretty attractive situation for most coaches. JMO.

RP's post is going to make ESPN's MNF "C'mon, Man" segment.

What do people expect from coaches anyway? They can't very well say, "I like where I'm at, but would move for a marquee job opening."

I think Charlie Strong likely is being honest about being happy as the head coach of U of L. That doesn't mean he won't leave for the right offer, and should he do that, it doesn't make him any less of a person. These guys have to make statements that they're committed to the program, otherwise they undermine themselves.

He draws a pretty healthy salary right now, doesn't he? I think his stock, and thus the pay he will draw, will do nothing but increase over the next few years. There will always be "good" jobs open. It might be a smart financial move for him to wait.
