He draws a pretty healthy salary right now, doesn't he? I think his stock, and thus the pay he will draw, will do nothing but increase over the next few years. There will always be "good" jobs open. It might be a smart financial move for him to wait.

 

He makes more now at Louisville than Sherman ever made at A&M. He waits another year and his admittedly short record and the recruiting data suggest that Louisville is only better next year and the year after. Then he'll really get paid.

^Getslow, the fact that he's an SEC guy, and would be stepping into a situation with very tempered initial expectations could be an appeal of A&M. No one there would be expecting him to win right away, and he'd be able to do a good job recruiting the caliber athlete that it takes to win in the SEC. I personally think A&M is a pretty attractive situation for most coaches. JMO.

 

His recruiting connections remain in Florida. And I have to think that he's near the top of Florida's list for a replacement if Muschamp fails to improve. That alone might be worth waiting for. And while he's at it, he's got a real good shot at having some solid teams at Louisville to pad his resume.

 

I understand him leaving, but I wouldn't understand him doing it this year.

What do people expect from coaches anyway? They can't very well say, "I like where I'm at, but would move for a marquee job opening."

 

I think Charlie Strong likely is being honest about being happy as the head coach of U of L. That doesn't mean he won't leave for the right offer, and should he do that, it doesn't make him any less of a person. These guys have to make statements that they're committed to the program, otherwise they undermine themselves.

I think he has a good thing going. I like him but will be suprised if he's at Louisville in 2-5 years. Figured Ole Miss might go after him hard.

I don't think Cal is going anywhere. On a side note, please don't ever compare Strong and Cal. You're right, neither has won anything, but the separation in class is monumental.

I fear the USC job. If the ole ball coach steps down in about 3-5, I'll be petrified. I firmly believe Charlie feels he has a job to do here. At this point, he's nowhere near finished.

I want coaches to not blow smoke. Do they think we're that naive to think they're not leaving for a better gig should it come about? If you say you know that a coach will do what's best for him then you are saying "Insult my intelligence, coach. Tell me you're staying when I know you'll do what I would do and what almost every other coach does - leave for a better gig. Tell me I'm pretty. Tell me I'm the only one for you."
