Having worked the Phonathon at X for several years, I can say that about 30% at X get aid. I understand it is limited to 50% of tuition. The applications are sent to a college review company, and that is the amount of aid provided. X has no input.

Tigercat, I really wish you knew more about reality in regards to this situation. X takes money from wherever it comes in. As does all private schools. If you play sports, it had better be from where it's supposed to be. This works at all schools as well.

You are 90% correct. There are approx five approved companies for calculating financial need. The Archdiocese of Louisville is currently using PSAS (Private School Aid Service), one of the approved companies.

 

Also, due to improved fundraising by the Trinity Foundation, families can now get about 60% of financial need met.

Flaget won 3. Trinity won the Championship in 1972 and 1973 and St. X in 1974. So in that stretch Flaget/Trinity wins 5, St. X wins 3. With Flaget closing in 1974 many alumni would be faced with a decision of what school to send their children to since as noted sons often follow fathers in Louisville.

 

First hand knowledge verifies that the majority of the Flaget alumni are now Trinity backers. And that by itself has given Trinity a boost in the area of football.

 

Who were some famous Flaget football graduates? Just Howard Schnellenberger and Paul Hornung.

 

Moving ahead to 2009. Trinity was not a national powerhouse and is even a little 'down'. But their coaches and parents said - the sophomores of that year were special. How special? #1 in the nation as seniors. Not bad. So the pendulum not only swung to Trinity - it swung far more than usual. It will swing back. St. X, Trinity and Flaget have great traditions, alumni and supporters. And they have always been the measuring stick of the highest level of football in Kentucky from the 1950s forward.

Change sophomores to freshmen and seniors to juniors.

A little clarification is in order. Until this year financial aid never topped 50 percent because that was all of the money that was available. Thanks to a lot of hard work by the Trinity Foundation, this year the percentage was 65 percent. Under KHSAA rules it could be 100 percent if the money was available. If a student needed 100 percent aid, this year they would get 65 percent. In the future, Lord willing, as more money becomes available, the percentage will increase. I would love to see the amount of money avaiable cover 100 percent of need for all of our students.

I apologize. I honestly thought the KHSAA rule was that a student-athlete couldn't receive more than 50% in tuition aid, merit and/or need-based combined.

 

It seems that this has been a myth.

I think it is fair to say the gap is really big at the moment. T is on a special run and even though this isnt their first rodeo, they certainly have never distanced themselves in this manner before. The #1 ranking and chance for National Champs pretty much speaks for itself with very few to argue. Great programs do great things year in and year out but this program is going through a once in a lifetime opportunity to do what no other KY team has ever done. As a great coach says often in my part of the Bluegrass, "these State Champs stand on the shoulders of the other great T teams that stood before them" Well he didnt say T.:thumb:

It seems the procedure for student-athlete eligibility is pretty detailed and that the KHSAA has a lot more info than I ever knew they had about individual student-athletes..
