Seven Years Ago Today ...

Featured Replies

November 22, 2004, I got up from bed and decided that I had smoked my last cigarette.

3 packs a day to zip, cold turkey. It was the best thing I've ever done for myself.

Awesome!

What made you decide to quit?

When my daughter was born in 1989 she had some breathing problems initially. My dad decided that if he wanted to be around her she couldn't be exposed to smoke. He quit that day. Still has the urge 22 years later.

Great move. I had my last smoke over three years ago. In February I will be completely tobacco free for a year!

Awesome choice and great job swamprat!

That's awsome swampy. Sept 20, 2004 for me. My wife was pregnant with our first so she had to quit. I quit to support her. Haven't touched one since. Smoked my last one on the way home from watching Monday Night Football at Rookies in downtown Henderson. Seven years later I can still remember that last cig. The urge is still there but it's more of an after thought now.

I have never been a smoker, but I wonder. Does being around it make it harder? Like if you are at a bar and someone is smoking, does the urge intensify?

Strong work. Not easy to do, especially cold turkey.

A LOT. I still want a smoke or dip every day.

I just decided that day I didn't want to smoke anymore. I wanted to quit more than I wanted to smoke.

Especially when drinking.

That's awesome! I am on day 6 of no soft drinks and every time I pass a Coke machine, I feel weak in the knees. For anyone struggling to quit whatever your addiction is, stay strong! YOU CAN DO IT!

Being around it, used to make me want to light up, especially in a bar. Now, most of the time, I don't like the smell of cigarette smoke, even when I'm drinking. I can't stand to ride with my sister, because she smokes in her car.

The cravings gets better. I can't remember the last time I wanted to light up.
