When we moved to NKY my oldest daughter stayed behind in Michigan to finish her high school lacrosse career. She is being recruited and the options in Michigan to get recruited dwarf NKY where girls lacrosse is virtually nonexisitent sans Notre Dame Academy. Unless I am away on business, or have other comittments I cannot get out of, I am up there at her games. It's 4.5 -5 hours each way to get to her games. I would not even think of not supporting her in the short time she is in high school. It means the world to her when I show up. I just do not understand the lack of parental support at some of these games.

I can only speak to the situation at Southern.... But before you bash the parents, you should look into the demographics of the school. Many of those parents would likely LOVE to be there, but many DO work the kind of hours that would prohibit it. Many others lack transportation. And then there are those who just don't care. Kudos for the kids at Southern for continuing to suit up and play each week despite the lack of fans in the stands, even at their home games. They obviously are doing it for the love of the game, and not the glory.

 

I'm not bashing anyone. I understand the work part but I don't get the excuses that some use. What would be the % of parents who are not there because they can't afford it but have a 4.00 pack of Cigs in their pocket. We see the same thing at Mayfield. Some kids have never had their parents show up for anything they did in high school.

Looking at KHSAA Caverna has 30 players, so if only 7 parents traveled and assuming each represented one player that leaves 77% of the team’s parents didn’t travel. If 2, 3 or 4 of those 7 were the same family, that’s even worse. Pretty sad IMO. Not to mention the seniors, I couldn’t imagine not watching my son play his last high school game ever. Obviously, the long drive and having to get off work early is a factor, but for ¾ of the team parents? With support like that it will be even tougher to climb out of the 1-10 type seasons.

Caverna had 18 players Friday night.

Wow, 12 players less than the roster on KHSAA. Hard to compete with 18 players, but kudos to those who stuck it out.

The crowd seemed a little sparse for the normal at the Bellevue/Bracken Co. game.

I would estimate that South Floyd brought about 30 people with them to Raceland. But, I have to hand it to them, those 30 did cheer their team on.

To be fair, that's a problem with Lex-area schools as well. I've been to games where the Lexington schools were overwhelming faves and they only brought a few dozen on the road. I've seen home games where it was less than 100.

 

Bottom line is, as a general rule, big-city public schools have deplorable fan support. Part of that may be blamed on economics, but not all of it.

 

And not just a football issue. I've been to several basketball games in Lexington, and the only place that really packs the stands is Catholic. I can say the same for some of the outlying schools - Clark County, Montgomery County, Scott County - at least the games I've attended. They have big, vocal crowds.

 

But there are other big Lexington public schools that don't.

I did not know that, that probably explains why there are so many playoff games, it's all about the money! Why should a home team that brings 1,000 people to the game have to share the gate with a team that sold say 10 tickets????? Go ahead, bash me, I know that's not a politically correct statement.

NewCath lost money last week because of this very reason, although Gallitan County did bring more than 10.

To get more money why dont the schedule games on Friday and Saturday. A lot of fans would go to multiple games on the weekends if the option was there.
