I agree...Every parent should be at their kids game unless of course they have to work...:thumb:

 

In another thread they are talking about embarrassing kids on BGP's by saying why even play the game because it's going to be a blowout but to me at least, it has got to more of an embarrassment for a kid, for his parents to not even bother to show up for his last game than anything posted on BGP's.

 

After my father died my mother didn't come to my games and it hurt especially after the games, when I would see my friends and their parents walking off the field talking, laughing and being a family. Even today if I see a kid hanging by himself, I will go to them to just pat them on the back or just say great game.

I once drove almost 150 miles to go to an 8th grade wrestling meet, then a freshman girls basketball game then back home. No way would I have missed a game my kids were involved with. Even went to our high school games for 35 years after we graduated. Lived in the same town and kids went to same school. Maybe no community to call your own is a problem. My opinion is that private schools advantage is that they are a community.

AA, I was just thinking about when we used to get the privilege of playing you all for round 1 every year. We were always pretty sure that we were going to get drilled, but we still brought a good following, including a pep bus. :thumb:

Any school who doesn't bring more than 10 fans to the game should have parents that are ashamed. It's pathetic if the parents won't show up to support the kids.

 

Maybe that's an indirect vote as to how the current playoff system doesn't work, and those folks talking about how great that extra game is for their team is just not that great.

Maybe the four seed should get a vote. In my situation, my team would have chosen to play every time and our parents and community would have been there to support them. Any Friday night with a football game is better than any Friday night without one. You may go into the game knowing that you'd need to be in really good with the Big Man Upstairs to even come close to a win, but in each play you still line up and do your job and and aim to do the best that you can. I can remember some big playoff losses but I can also remember some great moments for my team during some of those losses.

I would argue that the players would rather soon forget being on the receiving end of 50-point beatdowns. There might be one player who managed to make a big play and score the lone TD who might have a fun memory, but for the rest of those kids, getting their brains pounded in is no fun. I say that as someone whose school regularly got their brains pounded in.

As a Parent, I can not imagine not being present when my child is playing a sport, especially a sport such as football. Tates Creek didn't bring much of a crowd to Alexandria.

The Henderson radio crew said Southern had 12 in the vistor's stands.

Male, Manual, Ballard, Eastern, Fern Creek, PRP, Central and maybe a couple others are about the only Louisville publics who you could say "pack" the stands week in week out.

 

Iroquios, Southern, Valley, Western, Atherton, etc. aren't known for packing the stands. I was at a Fairdale/Valley regular season game a few years back and it was for the outright district title, two schools not 6 miles from each other and I might have counted 200 people total.

You're exactly right. I remember a time when Dunbar, Tates Creek, etc. use to pack the stands (and, it wasn't so long ago), though.

Boyd County brought a decent number of fans up for our game.

When we moved to NKY my oldest daughter stayed behind in Michigan to finish her high school lacrosse career. She is being recruited and the options in Michigan to get recruited dwarf NKY where girls lacrosse is virtually nonexisitent sans Notre Dame Academy. Unless I am away on business, or have other comittments I cannot get out of, I am up there at her games. It's 4.5 -5 hours each way to get to her games. I would not even think of not supporting her in the short time she is in high school. It means the world to her when I show up. I just do not understand the lack of parental support at some of these games.

I can only speak to the situation at Southern.... But before you bash the parents, you should look into the demographics of the school. Many of those parents would likely LOVE to be there, but many DO work the kind of hours that would prohibit it. Many others lack transportation. And then there are those who just don't care. Kudos for the kids at Southern for continuing to suit up and play each week despite the lack of fans in the stands, even at their home games. They obviously are doing it for the love of the game, and not the glory.

Nothing new. This has been going on for years, regular season included. When we used to play KY teams, we would have more fans on road games than the home team for EVERY away game.
