If I understand correctly the stadium is at 2800 Kansas St in Ashland which is not where the high school is.

 

Is it with the middle school?

Sounds like the Ashland Daily Independent is suggesting, today, that Cov Cath may have engaged in some shenanigans back in the 1991 game. Did they really "kidnap" Ashland's best player?

 

 

The day started out unseasonably warm but turned bitterly cold before the fourth quarter ended. Everything looked better at the start of the game for the Tomcats, who bolted out to a 24-7 lead behind unstoppable running from Chris Hutt. Covington Catholic was simply having a hard time tackling Ashland’s senior running back.

 

But on one crushing hit, Hutt went down in a heap with a shoulder injury. He came off the field and the Covington Catholic doctors (Ashland didn’t have one at the game) said they were going to monitor him on the sideline, suspecting a numbing stinger injury. But the next thing you knew, an ambulance was called and Hutt was strapped to a board and taken to a local hospital. He was whisked away and with him went the Tomcats’ hopes.

 

Hutt came back in the fourth quarter and the injury was nothing more than the stinger, a painful nerve injury that most of the time goes away after a short time. He could have stayed on the sidelines for a couple of series and probably been fine to return. But by the time he was able to get back to the game, it was over for the Tomcats.

 

Covington Catholic went on to win 41-24 in the regional championship game. Bell County defeated the Colonels the following week in the semifinals en route to the state title.

Belfry, George Washington and Johnson Central can put up points on most teams as effortlessly as Kobe Bryant sinks a jumper; however, against Ashland, the three combined for 31 points. So why couldn’t the Tomcats stop QB Blake Bir, RB Gabe Gray and the Colonels at Putnam Stadium tonight?

Fewest points scored in a full game this year by Cov Cath = 28.

Most points allowed in a game all year by Ashland = 18.

Birdsfan: The problem is you cant stop both. If you stop Blake Bir you then have to stop Gabe Gray. In order to stop Gabe Gray you have to stop the Colonels O line. Unfortunately for the tomcats if you stop all 3 you may get a heavy does of the sophomore freak Dressman. I think this will be a great high school football game and cannot wait to see the blue boys

So how is Ashland's offense, can they score enough to keep up?

I'm really disappointed I can't make it back to Ashland for this game. I will be listening online though. Good luck Tomcats!!!

They are well rounded. Very solid rushing and passing attack. The QB is a good one. They have a trio of backs that get the job done. I just don't know much about CCH's defense to tell how Ashland will fare offensively.
