The Generals didn't look sharp against Dixie Heights. They had four turnovers and 76 yards worth of penalties.

 

But they survived.

 

Lafayette Coach Carl Hayden saw all the warts, but he also saw a big win.

"This time of year, 'W's' do it," he said.

Senior star Bubba Johnson had the same take on the Generals' spotty performance.

"It doesn't matter how ugly or how good, it's just if you get that 'W,' " he said.

Johnson put a huge dent in Dixie Heights' defense. He rushed 28 times for 218 yards — pushing him over 1,000 for the season — and three touchdowns. He rarely went down on a first hit as he shed tacklers all night.

Good game by both sides. With three freshman (Johnson, Owens, and Harrison) playing defense id say decent showing. Cohorn may have had a catch but stayed in as QB in second half. Bruns also showed how much he was missed with his elusive running. Dixie's O-line was always out-numbered so there was never anywhere to run. Should be a good matchup against the camels.

 

So this was a LTI for Dixie too!!!

Sounds like a good showing from Dixie last night with all things considered.

How did Owens do? A frosh starting on defense is pretty impressive. I have no doubt that he'll develop into a quality player for the Red Colonels.

Owens did well. He was in on several tackles. He also had a few solo. He wasn't the only freshman though. Harrison CB, S had good plays over taller receivers. He had an interception in the end zone over a 6'3 receiver. Johnson also a freshman, DT had four or five tackles and a QB sack. Considered that dixie only looses maybe a dozen starters, they should be growing in strength.

Congrats to Lafayette. Keep on winning.

I know Dixie has suffered through some injuries and that they had some stellar freshmen this year, but I find it interesting and surprising that several freshmen saw significant playing time in a must win, tough playoff game.
