Covington Catholic 42 Conner 14

#10 - Jake Mulderink - Senior - scored the TD you are referring

QB is #7 - Drew Barker - Sophmore

#22 - Cameron Fogle - Junior

Names go well with numbers when posting.

Just to let you know, the gentlemen in question was working a concession stand on the visitors side of the field yesterday and while he could see some of the game, my guess with waiting on the Conner fans, he couldn't hear the names of the players in question.

I didn't make the game. Not surprised by the score. CCH's offense is simply a machine by local standards. Very tough to find enough defenders to stop it especially with Blake Bir at QB. Kid is so smooth and calm and smart.

Let me throw out congrats to my man Drew Barker for topping 2000 total yards offense in 7.5 games. Solid year. Lots to work on . Accuracy will come. Arm strength is there. Not a bad year at all . I look forward to being a blowhard for him for 2 more seasons.

Funny to think of a Pee Wee team in Boone County having both of these kids on the same team.

I think the Colonels are going to be the team to beat in KY for the next few years. Their DB play has gotten ridiculous and these kids are only sophmoers, not to mention the should be defensive player of the year in NKY Sam B. at MLB. Its going to be a great few years in Park Hills!

I bet Coach Ray is having a great time coaching Sam up too.

Without rushing to next year yet let me say that it's asking a lot to replace all of the seniors on offense. How many starters come back? Bir and Sandfoss? You're asking a lot to replace a line and the receiving corp and a top 2 or 3 back in NKY.

35-14 with 2 minutes left and COlonels deep in Conner territory. Why is Bir still throwing? Would the Coach from Johnson Central be criticized for such a move?

Old guy?

I guess that is a valid reason but it's no big deal really... just filling in his blanks. That's odd though, that he could hear how the coaches on Conner's sidelines addressed the kids with the lack of coaching but yet he could not hear the announcer.

That's exactly correct. I could hear the Conner coaches, but I could not clearly hear the PA system. Cov Cath's PA system is frankly in embarrassing need of replacement, and Conner's coaches were screaming things (from yards away from me) to their players on the field. You were right on.

For what it's worth, someone else agrees with me about the PA system...here's a quote from a thread from a few weeks back:

The CCH public address system can barely be heard on the visitor side.

Wow...just a sophomore. That's good to hear. His passes had serious zip to them, looked tight, his accuracy was just often lacking. Knowing that he was a sophomore, that makes a little more sense to me. He'll work out the kinks, mature in the pocket a little more, get a little more comfortable under pressure, and he'll be a player to watch, no doubt.

This was the first game that Bir has played in third quarter much less the 4th quarter (Holmes game he did play in the 1st Offensive series which was three plays long I believe) since the HHS game. PC, BYE, HC and Holmes, so he needed the work prior to the start of the playoffs and since Conner was playing to stop the run first, CovCath went with what Conner was giving them. Quite frankly and I can only guess this but if Bir hadn't throw the Int or Gray fumbled, Bir wouldn't have been in at that time.

I actually talked about that for a little with Mr. Rowe, Mr. Z, and Richard Dickmann about that exact thing on Saturday :thumb:

(The scoreboard was in the conversation too.)

Woah, woah, woah....hold on. Are they for sure installing lights?

Count on it.

Yep. Once the money's there. They want them in as soon as possible, but it's looking to realistically be at least 2 or 3 seasons off.

They pretty badly need improvements to the pressbox, the visitors stands, the home stands aren't fantastic but they're alright, they need to get a functional PA system, and the desperately need to replace the scoreboard. That will actually likely be replaced after this season...and there's a nice big open spot waiting for the new one on the side of the Schott building.

It's kind of a "what do we do first" situation. PM me if you want me to explain a little bit more...
