Cov Cath looked rough...Conner looked rough...officials looked rough. Let's hope for improvement by all involved.

 

Cov Cath's o-line just wasn't the same without Henderson, although the junior and sophomore that they filled in with both showed promise. Cov Cath's d-backs and Gabe Gray were the only particular bright spots I saw on Cov Cath's side today. Bir and the receivers did well, but nothing exceptional. Gabe had an awesome acrobatic touchdown run in the 1st quarter, flipping end over end over a player and landing on his feet in stride in the endzone. A lot of dumb penalties and mistakes by Cov Cath this week.

 

Conner was physical, but not polished enough to execute. Their coaches seemed to primarily yell from the sidelines rather than coach. A lot of derogatory comments from their coaches to their players mid-game. #22 impressed me, but they didn't do much with him in the second half. Their quarterback had great looking passes...except nearly all of them were off target. The second Conner tuddy came on a broken up pass play where the qb was chased out of the pocket and was being tackled, threw the ball to a receiver on the 1 or 2 yard line, and the receiver made a 1-handed grab, pinning the ball against his shoulder pad and actually holding on as he was tackled into the endzone - very good catch...wish I caught the receiver's number to give him some credit.

Had a chance to talk to Mrs. Ray for a few minutes after the game. It's always great to see her. I don't care who you are, that woman has been, and continues to be Cov Cath football's biggest fan, bar none.

I think we'll have to wait for T.O.G. for that. Saw him in passing after the game. I wasn't in the box for this one, but I know he was.

The score could have been much worse.

Cov Cath left 2 scores on the field in the first half.

They can't afford to do that against the better 4A teams starting next week.....

Connor has some of the best looking uniforms I have seen recently....

Hate to disagree with Colonels_wear_blue but Bir had an exceptional game or at least his stats were exceptional.

 

Bir 24-31-1 366 yards and 4 TD passes of 4 yards, 29 yards, 16 yards and 21 yards. Of the six incomplete passes, three ball were dropped by his CovCath receivers and the Int was a ball deflected by a DL, so I would say Bir had a rather great game!

CovCath improves their record to 8-2 and next plays Rowan County at CovCath on Saturday Nov 5th at 1pm in the first round of the Class 4A Russell Athletic/KHSAA Commonwealth Gridiron Bowl.

 

Rowan County finished their season with a record of 8-2 and scored 372 points while giving up 345.

Looks like Blake's stats were much better than I had thought. Still...not a pretty game. I suppose I could have been basing my opinion on the amount it seemed that Blake was stuck scrambling before he threw, which would come back to the O-line and trying to replace Jake.

CovCath averaged 8 plus yards per play and had over 500 total yds. I believe they had two turnovers that cost them 14 more points. Offense was not firing on all cylinders but nothing to be too critical about.
