New Cath will need to play from the first kick off and stay focused for the entire game to win this one. Will be interesting to see what Beechwood does without their starting QB, if he is indeed out for this game. Shoud be a great game and could go either way.

As always, it should be a great game to watch. Of all the rivalry games in N. Ky., none has consistently provided great competitive games year after year like this one. These are great small school programs that can go toe to toe with virtually any team in the state regardless of size. These two teams have combined for nine wins this year over schools in class 3A-6A. As mex says, NCC is still stinging from last year's defeat and they want this one even more than usual. Some of the best athletes in the state will be on the field for this one. Brady Hightchew and Max Nussbaum are multi sport athletes and great football players. Cameron Vocke is a human highlight reel. He will do something Friday night that will make you say wow ... guaranteed ... because he does it every week. Well coached teams facing off in a display of talent and strategy. It will be a lot of fun and worth every penny you spend for your ticket.

 

As to the game, it will be won up front. These types of games almost always are. It will be a grind it out match with big plays likely deciding the outcome. Which team's line will help their playmakers make the most big plays? Which defense will be able to hold the other team's playmakers in check? Too close to call. This game always is. I am looking forward to it.

W or L as long as both teams come out with any injuries they will learn a lot bout their team and what they need to work on to be ready for another long playoff run. I say NewCath in a close one.

Let's list the weapons in this game in order of potency:

 

1. Cameron Vocke - No one on either side can make plays completely on his own like Vocke can. Watch his scramble on the option pass last year vs. NCC and you will see what I mean.

 

2. Brady Hightchew - A winner who can put his team on his back and do what needs to be done to win a game - run, pass, playfake, whatever needs to be done to get that win, he will and can do it.

 

3. Max Nussbaum - Fastest player on the field, yes faster than Vocke (not by much). If he gets a crease he will explode through it and no one will catch him. If Hightchew or Hayes get a crease, he will chase them down.

 

 

 

 

4. Dylan Hayes - He has speed and hits the hole hard. He can break a long one but he is not quite to the level as the three above.

 

5. Wolterman/Franzen - Excellent receivers with good hands. Can they get open versus the Beechwood corners who have been lock down defenders this year with very few exceptions?

 

Those to me are the players who are most likely to make a big play. There are definitely others on both sides capable of coming up big in this one but the players listed above top the list. So I would call it pretty even with Beechwood having two of the top 3 but NCC having extra playmakers in the receiving corps that have done it in games this year.

According to the paper, Beechwood is a bit of a M.A.S.H. Unit. I hope that they get healthy before the playoffs heat up in the regional finals. I also hope that NewCath comes out of this game injury free.

The beautiful thing about Beechwood's team this year is the depth of talent. If everyone were healthy, there would be a lot of players just playing one way. All the injuries are doing is causing some talented players to play both ways instead of just one way. Beechwood has been missing 3 or more starters in virtually every game since early in the year. They still have scored 60+ in 6 of the last 7 games. Yes, you want all your guys going on game night but Beechwood has been dealing with injuries all year so they are used to it. The talent and depth are there to overcome it as they have all year.

VoR...I love your optimism, but installing a brand new offense 3-4 days and competing against a top team may be asking too much. Let's hope some get healthy within a few weeks so the seniors get to play a little more before it's over.
