Deer

If you have comprehensive coverage with your car insurance plan, you will be covered 100% without receiving a hike in premiums & without having to pay any kind of deductible. Would also be true if you hit a dog, or if a rock cracked your windshield, etc. I think I'm permitted one such claim per year.

Also covers vandalism and theft. I carry comprehensive coverage on everything (even if I do not carry full coverage).

I wasn't aware of the vandalism & theft, I suppose because I've never experienced either of those things. Comprehensive is worth every penny IMO, particularly if you live in the country where deer are very prevalent this time of year.

Are you serious?

With full comp coverage, yes and no deductible.

My neighborhood recently had a bunch of people get their tires slashed and they paid both of the tires I lost.

You didn't have to pay the deductible?

I had one hit me before. Literally jumped into the side of my car. No damage. My son did about $2,200 worth of damage earlier this year.

A deer did the same to my son and daughter-in-law this summer near Nolin Lake. It caused $2000 worth of damage to their new Mazda crossover they purchased in January. My son was NOT happy with that deer.

You don't pay anything if you have full comprehensive coverage...not even a later increase in premium.

Surprised they didn't total it.^^^

Do you have GAP Insurance on your loan if you have a loan? Does everybody have GAP Insurance on your loans? It would be a great idea to do so, We have had two auto wrecks in the past three years, we had it and it paid off our loan.

I've been lucky. I've had several very fortunate near-misses that likely would have destroyed my VW, and one score.

Driving my dad's F-150 from Florence back to Warsaw and came across one galloping southwest along the white line. I tracked it for a few yards to see what it would do, and it just kept its spot. So I go around, and I'm almost past it when the dumb beast does a hard left into the back end of the truck. I stop to look at the truck and to see if I needed to put it out of its misery, but it just got up and ran up the hill. Only a minor dent on the truck. :notworthy:

I know it's kind of unrelated, but check this out. Happened in South Africa recently. A 300lb hartebeest antelope totally rocks this mountain biker. (There are some longer versions with sound available on YouTube, but the follwing biker with the camera uses a touch of adult language....

Do they think deer did it? :sssh:

I have been lucky enough to not have a car/deer encounter, but I have been close even while being extremely cautious. I do not wish to injure a deer or my car. I just came upon an encounter two weeks ago where the deer was terminated as was the vehicle...luckily no people injuries.

No, just talking about the vandalism part of the insurance.

I was just trying to be funny...not too successfully. Didn't mean to take away from your good point.

I knew what you were doing. But I really didnt know I was covered for that until someone told me. I had already bought the tires before I was told by someone to check and see about it.
