Beechwood player injured

Featured Replies

I was told Joe Staten left in a life squad after a cheap shot by a Ludlow player. I am not saying it was a cheap shot, I am saying that is how it was reported to me by a Beechwood fan.

Anyone?

Is Joe okay?

Prayers up for the young man's recovery.

Hate to hear this, hopefully he will be fine

Staten intercepted a pass. During the runback a Ludlow player grabbed his facemask and ripped his helmet off. Staten kept running and was pushed out of bounds about 5 yards after losing his helmet. He never was tackled on the play. He ran off the field and seemed ok. Had a slight limp as he ran off but nothing seemed wrong. Then apparently he collapsed as he was standing on the sideline. Someone said this has happened to him before so hopefully it was just playing it safe and he is ok.

I missed the beginning of the game and this play, but aren't the refs supposed to whistle the play dead as soon as a Helmet comes off? The players said that he seemed fine and was standing on the sidelines and just passed out. The report this morning is that he's fine and only has has a slight sprain.

There were some other injuries that may be more damaging to the Tiger program

That is good news on Staten.

What are the other injuries OSD?

The helmet was ripped off (by the facemask) by the QB whp threw the int. This transpired as they were close to falling out of bounds. The play was blown dead as they were going out of bounds and for the 15 yard personal foul. From my perspective it seemed pretty flagrant but it's hard to say unless you are down on the field.

On the same note, the Beechwood coaching staff frowns on injuries being talked about on BGP and on occasion they have good reason. This was pointed out to me a few weeks ago by a staff member and it made sense at waht he was saying.

Definitely agree. That's why I only provided the Positive point about Staten and no details on the others. I don't think it's fair for someone on the outside to speculate or spread possible bad information.

Hopefully none of the other injuries are serious.

I agree if a player is nursing an injury but will play that is probably something better left unsaid. However, if a player has an injury that will cause him to miss a game(s) it is delusional to think that it being on BGP is somehow an issue. In other words, everyone at Beechwood knows it, everyone that was at the game last night knows it, everyone at NCC knows it and everyone at Mayfield will know it soon enough.

Maybe some people need to frown less...

Sounds like Rash is trying to squash some peoples freedom of speech. It is going to get out before you know it.

The QB was running Staten to the sideline and Staten made a cut back away from the sideline. The QB who had overrun the play at this point reached back to grab whatever he could. Happened to be the facemask, and with the action of Staten cutting in the opposite direction of the player running full speed the helmet came off. You could tell by the QB's reaction immediately after grabbing the facemask that it wasn't intentional. The play was neither intentional or flagrant.

Freedom of speech has nothing to do with it. Unfortunately, even at the HS level, teams will go after a player that might not be 100% and focus on the injury and try to take him out. It's more like freedom of common sense.

Exactly, we know everytime a Bw player hiccups, has a cold or blows his nose. We don't hide ours for the same reason, Bw knows the second it happens. I hope all get well for the playoffs, if either is not it is a shame. Granted we are already down several starters for the year but it is part of it
