US Withdraws From Iraq

Featured Replies

If I remember correctly Perot drew quite a few votes.
He got over 19 million in 1992, almost 20%. If he hadn't run Clinton probably wouldn't have won.

I hear that all the time, but it seems like at the time the reports were that Perot took almost as many votes from Clinton as he did Bush.

This decision was actually not on Obama at all. According to the Status of Forces agreement signed by Bush, all American troops had to be withdrawn from Iraqi territory by 12-31-2011.

Also, there was big issues with our troops staying there and immunity from having to be tried in Iraqi court. I am sure this had a big impact on whether or not to stay there. It is very annoying that immunity would even come up as an issue for the Iraqi's.

I never saw any reputable source claim that, then or now.

I actually remember the vote for Perot was a "we are fed up with both parties" rather than some conservative movement. I think it would have been safe to say that the split of their vote would have been about 50/50 to Clinton or Bush IMO. I know I had family members and friends who voted Perot because they were tired of Reaganomics as they saw it and still thought that Perot was more in tune with NAFTA problems than Clinton.
