It has to be Romney for the R's to win. It is looking up for Romney to win the nomination as the right wing candidates continue to implode.

 

First off, I agree that Romney will get the nomination. And on the bolded, that's true with Bachman & perhaps Perry. At best, Perry is taking a dive in the polls. At worst, this is just the beginning of the end.

 

But I think we're seeing a surge on the part of Herman Cain, whom I would consider to be right-wing. And I also think Newt is starting to make some small noise. My guess is that this is due to both of them being very candid, direct, and entertaining in the debates.

 

If the KY primary were held today, I would be casting my ballot for Cain. I think on economic issues, he's the best Republican in the field by a landslide. It's on the foreign affairs where he really lacks.

 

As an unbiased observer, I believe Mitt Romney has run the best campaign. One of the talking heads said the other day that Romney was the only GOPer who has been consistently running his campaign as if it were already the General Election & not just the Primary. He has grown by leaps and bounds as a campaigner & debater since 2008. I'm still not voting for him, but I have to give credit where it's due.

^I still think Christie is going to jump in. It was rumored yesterday that he would give a final decision by tomorrow whether or not he runs. A ticket of Romney/Rubio or Christie/Rubio or even Romney/Christie (which I feel is highly unlikely) would be very formiddable for President Obama IMO.

I've been looking through some of Christie's past (and often vehement) denials that he's running for President. While I want him to change his mind, I now realize he's going to have some 'splaining to do if he chooses to run. First of all, he'll have to explain why he all of a sudden changed his mind & after being so adamant about not running up until now. That may be small potatoes, but he will have to confront it. But even bigger than that is one particular instance when he said, "I'm not ready to be President." That's a much bigger deal that he'll have to face.

 

I've long ago thought that Rubio would be the GOP Veep choice, whomever the Presidential candidate is. If it's Romney, Rubio is the smart choice because he brings southern flavor to the ticket & may also shore up Florida. While I don't think it's impossible to see a Romney/Christie ticket, I think it's much more plausible to see Romney/Rubio.

I'm feeling just the opposite. Why hold a press conference to announce what you've already said? Why not just release a press release saying it's not the right time, etc., etc.?

He could be milking the spotlight - it's never a bad thing to be wanted, and if you can amplify that or turn it into name recognition, all the better. He could also be looking to make a definitive end of the speculation. He's said he's not running many times, casually dismissing it again might not quell the speculation. I really have no idea what he's going to do, there's an explanation for just about every angle. I suppose we'll find out today?

Both have similar styles, in that they are very charismatic, well-spoken & straight shooters. Christie has really taken it to unions in New Jersey, challenging them in ways that doesn't often happen. He's far from a hard-core conservative, as he's in favor of civil unions & doesn't come close to toeing the conservative line on immigration. Fiscally, he seems like a tried-and-true conservative. So because he's all over the place on the issues, plus because of his style/presentation, he has an appeal to Independents and Democrats. Heck, he won the governorship of New Jersey while also maintaining some core conservative principles.

 

Cain is similar, but is definitely more of a traditional conservative. From a fiscal standpoint, people like that he's offering concrete, yet simple solutions to the economic conundrum. He & Romney are the only two Republicans, IMO, who have given consistent answers as to how to improve the economy. Whether or not Cain's 9-9-9 plan can work remains to be seen. But the simple fact that he has been both confident & adamant about it is appealing to some.

 

With both of them, there are definitely style points. They are persuasive, humorous, and seem to tell it like it is more than your average talking-points politicians. With Christie, he actually has ideals that appeal to both sides of the political aisle, which is why he's a much more serious threat to Obama than is Cain.

 

The Cain candidacy has fascinated me somewhat. It has also humored me, seeing as how the TPers have gone from Bachman to Perry and now they seem to be warming up to Cain. TPer's are all over the place, but I would like to think the support Cain has received from them would do much to squash the race card that's often used against them.

Please tell me how this is 100% fool proof to not rig an election. Are you all so narrow minded to not believe something like this is possible. Maybe the government is bigger than you possibly think. I dont think is is going to happen, but yes I do believe it is possible.
