I guess you could give these two teams the benefit of the doubt in not beleiving how bad they really are.

To clear a few things up about Bourbon County:

I'm not sure why Scott County had Bourbon County scheduled in the first place. I saw no history or rivalry of them playing Bourbon County in the past 10 years except lat season when they won 58-7.

As for Rockcastle County, in 2003 their schedule has been put into a twist.

South Laurel has been in the 2nd week of the schedule for the Rockets for a long time, but they wanted to play in a Bowl Game out of town with North Laurel their rival, it makes sense that they would both play different teams each year and the fan base would travel better if both played at the same place in the same bowl. That us understandable. Since it was a late cancellation Rock had to pick-up Cawood to play last season and it still left them with 4 home games instead of the original 5. No one that was open which I believe was only 2 KY teams and a handful of out of state schools would travel to Mt. Vernon, they all needed home games as well. So Rock was left playing Cawood in a two year contract so that Rock could get their 5 games regualr season games at home. Cawood was supposed to travel to Mt. Vernon this year and play in the Renfro Valley Jamboree Bowl, they dropped Rock 3 weeks ago leaving Rock once again the chance of only playing 4 regular season games at home, since there aren't but a handful of teams that need games this season and they all need home games as well. Bourbon County and Whitley County were both asked to come and play but Whitley County wouldn't agree to terms I guess. If Rock had not picked up Bourbon County they would've either had to: 1. Travel to Western Kentucky and still lose two games of gate revenue 2. Go out of state and play 3. Only play 9 games.

Bourbon County isn't being paid to be a win for Rock. The $2,000 is the same allottment that all teams get when they participate in the Renfro Valley Jamboree Bowl. Not only that but all teams get fed, t-shirts and travel expenses. This will be the 16 annual Renfro Valley Jamboree Bowl Game, it is a very nice bowl game with a Championship Trophy-Runner-Up Trophy. MVP for both schools get a trophy as well.

South Laurel and Lincoln County have been traditionally rotatinng in playing in this bowl, whereas Pikeville was an exception but I see nothing wrong with Bourbon County gaining revenue, exposure and maybe allow some kids to be recognized.

Also maybe the person in charge wasn't for sure how good Rock is supposed to be, which means virtually nothing because ask Harrison County what their #3 preseason ranking did for them last year...

For Rock they will be starting either a freshmen, sophmore or junior at QB and none have had over 20 Varsity snaps at that position. A little experience at that spot may be the key as well. Either way, I look forward to seeing Bourbon County get on the right track and bring a competitve squad to the Rock and enjoy the atmosphere that is present there and not be bashed. Who else would they schedule, because there aren't a handful of teams left this time of year.

Some new news....

Have had a player tell me that Rick Massie has been working with the team along with Wes Tipton (my former studio production teacher, I did the sports for his school news while at Bourbon). It appears that the players are getting in better shape, doing a ton of agility type drills two days a week, and weight training three days a week...

It appears that Massie is the front runner for the HC job, but a few others are in the mix, including Foley from Frankfort (surprise, even though I dont think he'll take the job) and Poynter from Trimble Co. There always appears to be a huge "wild card" type hire that has shown some interest, and if anyone would like to get his name feel free to leave me a PM.....

Appears the hiring should take place within this month....

Poynter would be a nice addition. He was a former Rockcastle County player, then assistant coach for the Rockets for quite a while, then moved to Bourbon County and did good job with the defense during their 1997 run, was head coach at Pike Central and now Trimble County. He has had success wherever he's been.

He was 14 points of winning 6 games at Trimble County this year, his first year. He actually did win 3 games this year and that is pretty good considering they had only won 3 games out of their last 30 before he got there and weren't even close to winning any of them.

You can mark Foley's name off the list. He is staying at Frankfort. Working had and gearing up for the season. He has added new memebers to his coaching staff. That I think will get the Panthers over the hump.

I heard that Poynter is not interested in the Bourbon job or any other job in the state. He is working to try and get Trimble turned around, and I have heard he may be getting some new additions to his staff.
