Holy Cross has stepped it up this year but they will run into trouble against teams that dont have to play both sides of the ball. Conners fresh legs and the heat wore to many kids out. They will win there share.

 

The heat was a bother last night, but I don't want to use it or two-way players as excuses. Beechwood and NCC are exceptional teams with numerous two-way players. They seem to play well against teams of all levels. It comes back to conditioning and following trainer and coach instructions. That is, drink water all day and during the game. Have good stretches before the game and before the start of the second half. HC likes to play against teams of various levels in addition to league games. Yes, they would like to win every game, but the goal is to be ready for a playoff run. I am a Holy Cross follower; however, with all things considered, I was with the group of people that thought this was a "pick em" game. Conner played well after a slow start. Barker is a talent. Holy Cross needs to make some adjustments (especially the LB play). Their remaining opponents will see the film of Barker. That said, Holy Cross should be fine.

I can be a blowhard for the kid and be objective. I'd challenge you to point out where I haven't been objective with him.

 

His passing game was good and bad. His deep balls were overthrown and he missed some nice opportunities for scores. His arm strength helped on a lot of 10 to 15 yard routes. He should have kept the ball on 4th and goal early instead of trying to pass it to the end zone. He ran hard and turned quite a few chickencrap plays into chicken salad.

 

Call me a fan all day because I am due to having known him since birth. But step up if you're going to question my ability to be fair in evaluating him.

Barker was 9 of 22 for 83 yards, 1 INT, and no TDs. However, he rushed 30 times for a net 159 yards and 5 TDs. It would have been even more rushing yards, but in high school football, sacks count against rushing totals.

I agree with you that he has talent. And it is certainly your right to root for him.

But being "somewhat familiar" with talented football players .... And many who play at the next level ....I have to say this. He is a sophomore. He has great potential. That's where things are right now.

 

But if you are going to question my ability to understand your posts ... It may serve you well to go back and read yours from the past few months. No objectivity what-so-ever.

Fortunately, not many teams use platoon systems. Highlands does. CCH does for the most part. Other than that? Any? Conner played quite a few players the entire game. The Kunkel kid #52 seemed to be on the field for every play as did Fogle and others.

I certainly root for the kid and I've certainly pointed out where he has gotten a lot of attention from others. If that's being unobjective then I'm 100% guilty. Call me out when you see me paint a rosier picture of his performance than is warranted. He's played two games so there isn't much I have to look for in regards to evaluating his performance. I said he played hard last week (true). I said he helped lead them to the red zone 3 or 4 times last week (true). He had a strong game running and the numbers proved that. Where was I over the top in my praise? You threw down the gauntlet with the UKfan#1 comment. Them's fightin' words.

Well, I certainly hope that Holy Cross will NOT have trouble in EVERY one of these situations. Otherwise, that will prove the points of view of those like VOR. It is the difference between "good" and "great". HC has had some good teams over the past 3 or so years as the football program improves. I'm looking for that collection of kids that says "we want more this year" and then goes out and walks the talk.

I listened to the broadcast on TriState Sports and one of the guys on there said Trosper had the score (41-21) of last year's HC/Conner game written on his board in his office and reminded his team all week about the beatdown from last season. I think that last year's game served as a huge motivator for last nights game.
