Walton Verona Being Sued By Parents of 13 Year Old Girl

Featured Replies

Here is a link to the actual suit with more detail than the article:

62. As a condition of that guilty plea, Vance was prohibited from attending anyevents at Walton Verona Schools. Despite the School Defendants’ knowledge of this condition, they allowed Vance to attend School Defendants’ sporting events. Also, after Vance’s conviction, the School Defendants advertised their summer basketball campwith a flyer that featured a picture of Vance on the front. The School Defendants reinstated Vance’s uniform number “5” by allowing his friend use that number midseason as part of a tribute to “Keep 5 alive.” In addition, at the School Defendants annual awards banquet, Coach Dan Trame publicly commended Vance, stating it was a shame he was prevented from finishing the season with his WVH School team.

Wow! I sure hope that isn't true Dan Trame...

Utterly reprehensible actions on the part of WV officials. If any of the above are true, I sincerely hope every one of them is terminated.

Whichever WV administrator leaked knowledge of the police inquiry to Dan Sullivan after being specifically told not to do so is darn lucky they did not get charged with obstructing an investigation. I suspect if the phone call to Vance Sullivan (during which he mentioned his dad had already been alerted to the investigation) had not produced some incriminating statement(s), you may very well have seen such a charge.

This stuff is so unbelievable and over-the-top, I am waiting for someone to eventually say that much of it is not true. If it is, heads should roll.

If I were a taxpayer in the WV district I would be standing in Bill Boyle's doorway demanding we get the right people in place. IF (big qualifier) any of this is true then the administration at WV needs to go elsewhere for employment.

If a principal found an 18 yr old kid assaulting a female (any age) and didn't do anything about it his sorry rear end should be fired.

If the asst principal could not separate his role as a school leader from that of a dad (and I think he failed at that as well) then his sorrier rear end should be fired as well. That's not even taking into account the fact he had his younger son pulled from the school so that he could fail 8th grade and repeat it. He then was so mad at his site-based counsel's new ruling that any kid failing could not participate in athletics the following year that he sent his son to Newport (who is the new supe there? That's right. Mr. Sullivan's dad) so he could repeat 8th grade. I'm not against holding kids back. That's a parent's decision to make. However, when you're a leader of the school it simply doesn't sit right.

There's a directive that the kid cannot show up at any school event yet this kid not only shows up but he shows up for middle school girls' basketball just to harass the girl and no one stops him?

Get out the broom, WV folks. Time to bring in a new bunch.

Did all of this truly happen? WOW. This Sullivan family has some serious issues going on. Priorities are upside down imo. Sounds like a good assignment for Steve Kroft.

First of all.....everyone needs to relax. Before you start your public hangings, you need to make sure that you know the facts. Everything that you have read is not true. Obviously, this is a terrible situation for all parties involved but lets make sure you hear ALL of the facts before you judge someone. It's easy to jump on the band wagon when you've only heard one side.

Agreed!

First, I am NOT saying that I have come to the conclusion that the girl is sexually active and the parents have a problem. I was speaking in general terms IF (please see all the capital IF's I posted) a girl, NOT meaning this girl. I am in NO way saying he is innocent. Please also look at both my posts where I ask if this will or should effect his scholarship at Union College, as well as my question about if a parent of a kid who is charged with any such issues who are adminisrators or teachers should be excused from any part of the decision making on punishment ect.

All will come out when it goes to court, then we all will find out what is what.

Which of the serious allegations are in dispute?

At least two of the assaults were verified.

The school did not keep him from being around the girl.

The school did not abide by the Sheriff's mandate to not tell the Sullivan family about the investigation.

The school did not abide by its own rules.

By all means, can you clarify what is NOT true in the court attachment. Please set the facts straight WS.

I will say that to be fair to Dan Trame we need some context to his "it's a shame" comment.

Now I usually will say charges are not convictions! IF someone has something out for a student all they have to do is make accusations and ruin the kid! At least make him sit until it is found out the charges were false. If the girl was not in any danger and the school was then taking a wait and see approach, I could see them letting him play.

Now, since the girl was not named I will say I heard from very reliable sources that it did not all go down like she said, she was willing to do it and she bragged about it to others! Are most girls that age going to tell their parents they are sexually active? No! They will try and get out of trouble and blame the male! Why do parents want to hide the fact, even to themselves, that their "little girl" is sexually active? I go back to the 9 days thing, shouldn't the parents be upset at her instead for not only waiting that long to tell someone, but to tell the school first and not even tell them? That the school had to tell the parents?

Yes I did, and that is true at times. A girl wants some type of sex with a guy of any age, and she gets caught, then blames the boy so her parents won't punish her. Regardless if she wanted to have sex or not, doing something to the 18+ is not going to solve the parents problem, they have a girl who is sexually active, and willing! Do parents actually think it's the first time their girl had some type of sex?

As I said in another post, a teenage boy is not thinking with the head on his shoulders, not saying it is right. Didn't the girls parents already get a big payday?

Sportsguy, you can't backtrack on what you actually said. It seems pretty clear that you are talking about THIS girl and her parents and that your mind is made up on the situation.

Would think it would be somewhat difficult for him to not have knowledge/involvement in the basketball camp flyer or the "Keep 5 Alive" tribute. That last item is just flat out bizarre.

NOPE! Not at all! Told you that in the PVT! If I came across as such I am sorry, as that was not my intent! Maybe in the post I accidently left out some key words, but it was not my intent to come across that way. the second quote is a good example, as I FORGOT to put the word "if" a girl wants..... As I said much of what I posted was from my iPhone which is difficult, then add the fact that their is a new system Guru is using for the mobile version with some issues I am having with posting, yeah I am going to accidently miss putting a few words in there as the curser jumps around on me at time as well.

THAT is why we have a court system, anyone can file just about anything on anyone, but that does not make it true, it doesn't make it false either. BUT as I said before, it seems all of this is bizzare, not saying it is all if any is false.

Then you are talking in general about cases in which the girl isn't named, about reliable sources, about underage girls that want sex and trap 18 year old boys and brag about it and about girls whose parents have already received a payday?

Would think it would be somewhat difficult for him to not have knowledge/involvement in the basketball camp flyer or the "Keep 5 Alive" tribute. That last item is just flat out bizarre.

Especially bizarre...obviously he wasn't dead and was playing ball somewhere else, wasn't he?

The "Keep Five Alive" was friends of the boy. The school wasn't involved. There are several facts in the court document that are not accurate. For instance, she was not "harrassed" at AAU games. The Sullivan's were present because their youngest son played AAU ball at the same venue. They would sit off by themselves and never "behind" the plaintiffs as stated in the documents. This IS a fact. Two of the alleged assaults were not confirmed, but based on hearsay. The accusations in the court document were construed and somewhat skewed, obviously in favor of very upset plaintiffs. Neither party will benefit in this situation especially now that it is in the public eye and everyone is chiming in....again, without all of the facts from ALL parties involved.

Especially bizarre...obviously he wasn't dead and was playing ball somewhere else, wasn't he?
Sounds like you have already made up your mind. And just to clarify, he did NOT play basketball elsewhere. And to go back to another post, he was not permitted to attend functions at WV. His sister played in both the Sweet Sixteen and the All A state and he was not permitted to watch her in either event, nor was he permitted to attend WV's graduation ceremony in support of his childhood friends.
