Yeah because that youth league in Ft. Thomas hasn't panned out....Even if there are a few parents that play favorites at least kids get in the game. The Red Devils play the best 11 and don't worry about anyone else. I can't remember a top player from the Red Devils going to CCHS the last decade anyway. So it looks to me like the board made a pretty good decision 5 years ago. The NKYFL is fading because of the win at all cost mentality of the league. I loved playing in the league(NKYFL) and was good enough to never come out of the game, but I can see why others who didn't wouldn't want to play.

For a kid to drop their head and get down on themselves is the campbell county coaching staff fault? Sorry but it takes more then two months of being together to completely change every kids attitude towards the game and as a team. The mentality off the kids getting down on themselves was not instilled by coach Lickert and his staff, that is exactly what they are pushing to drive out of their team. I bet during films saturday morning everything was positive and moving forward to facing Milford next week.

I think you may be right, but still, the coaches do have to be the ones working to instill confidence and pride in their players. Winning attitudes don't appear out of nowhere, but someone still has to be the one to start working to instill those attitudes in the players.

Campbell county school board decided 5 years ago to separate themselves from the Red Devil program. They wanted to charge us $1500 a day for the field. Then decided that they still did not want us. Then decided they did not like coach Styer and Staff. Then hired a new stafff. Then most of the board and super are gone. Now current players and staff from Varsity down to 3 graders are left with a terrible system that will not work. They want a Ft Thomas youth feeder system that will not work because it is made up of parents parents that play favorites to their kids. I am sorry but this is the honest truth, Beechwood 6 and 7 grade players beat Campbell County 7 graders 35 -0. This is a 6a team getting beat by a 1a school.

You do realize FTYF is largely coached by dads. At least that was the case when my son played there. 3rd and 4th grade team . 3rd grade, had great coaches, 4th grade, not so much. 5th and 6th grade team, same thing. 5th good, 6th not. For the record, my son was a starter every year, in the same position, so I'm not basing my observation on my son's playing time. Some years you had better dads than others.

I am not really sure how you base 2 or 3 months of a new coach, how this is a terrible system? I do not get it. Aren't parents coaching at the Red Devils level and from talking to past parents from the program the Red Devils play a select few and no one else. Where is the learning there? Also, how did YOUR Senior Red Devils do last year? Just curious.

 

I really hate when people judge a current staff/program with only 2 - 3 months of having the teams. If you are not at practices/games (on the sidelines) everyday you have no business judging anything.

You are correct here. There is never EVER any negative talk with these kids. Maybe in the office but NEVER around the kids. After being down 21 - 28 points at halftime (I can't remember) there was never any negative comments made to the kids, it was all positive and COACHING/TEACHING. It might take a while but these kids will start believing they can be in ANY GAME and WIN any game.

Just a comment from listening to the CovCath vs. Campbell County game from Mark Wehry and Kevin Connor on CovCath Internet Radio.

 

The last time CovCath won a state football title in their first game of that season, CovCath defeated Boone County by a score of 44-2. This season opens on the road against Campbell County and CovCath wins by a score of 42-2.

Yes, But my first 28 years i did not have a child playing. Coach Culp 32 years no kids. There are quit a few who are there with no kids. Yes we are competitve.

Campbell County SCHOOLS wanted this, not their coaches. To say this program is going to struggle because they hired another coach after the other coach resigned is not a fair statement and/or comment. It has been 2- 3 months since Lickert and his staff have been able to work these kids. I guess everyone is quick to judge.

 

I understand you and Coach Culp did not have a child in the program is great, good for you but you NOW have coaches who are dads and this has been like this for what 5 - 10 years? If you look at the CCYFL it still needs work but if you take for how long the Red Devils have been around the CCYFL is in the beginning stages still.

 

Say what you want but I remember a good run of Red Devil players coming through the program for the past 7 - 8 years.

 

My money is on Lickert.

I like coach Lickert. I think that the past school board dug a big hole him. I am not sure how he will fill it. I do not see any good players coming into their program. But it will not be from a lack of trying on his part.

I didn't see any quit in the Camels. I'm sure the inexperienced bunch that they are got a bit rattled with the Colonels' quick start but that is to be expected. That's completely different than quitting. I liked their aggressiveness starting the 3rd qtr. I was actually hoping Dave Wirth would take the starters out because the Camels were delivering some blows.

Coach Lickert will do everything he can to help build up his program from the little league to middle school and high school. Im sure he knows what he has to do, his goal is not to win NKY 6a and be satisified he is still pushing for his program to be built. Remember Rome wasnt built in a day!

I'm not sure how many of these things are new but here's what I liked:

 

Bringing a youngster out with the Camels captains to midfield

Letting a kid announce a play on the PA

Having a business recognize a past Camel each week

 

Good stuff. Helps build the football community.
