August 12, 201115 yr I hardly see maternity leave equating with the outright abuse of the welfare system. She doesn't agree with men getting the same amount of time, obviously (I agree with her by the way), and states that they can take the same amount of time which is a fact. Hardly hypocritical as Stewart tries to portray it. How is taking three months after giving birth and bonding with the child equivalent to living off the system like so many do? Not so beautifully done the way I see it. This is an example of why I really think Jon boy is so lame. BTW, wouldn't she have to be present for him to actually "take her on"?

Except for when he's poking fun at the side you disagree with, such as the thread you started the other day.

This one is just kind of lame. I really don't care if he rips on conservatives, just a poor effort by Jon this time. By the way, I can't tell you the last time I watched Fox News, it's not like I'm a huge Megyn Kelly fan or something. I've seen more CNN in the last six months than Fox.

This is not maternity leave vs. Welfare. This is a government regulation v "letting the market decide". The Family Health and Medical Leave Act (i think i have all of the words in the right places) requires that businesses give maternity leave. It is a government regulation. It also requires paternity leave (unpaid, I think in most cases, but people are guaranteed a job when they return). The market that she loves so much would not allow it and women would have to choose between children and work which they did for so long. Jon is simply pointing out her hypocrisy in regs. v free market.
August 12, 201115 yr Stewart is an idiot. He tries to dabble in politics and looks stupid, and he tries to be funny, which he isn't. How this guy still has a show/job is more embarrassing for our country than the fact that people watch Jersey Shore.

Although, once in a great while, he comes up with something funny.

I am not a frequent viewer of Jon Stewart since I can count on seeing the best stuff somewhere else. Stewart is a funny guy.

August 12, 201115 yr Stewart is a very talented guy that humors me more often than not--even when taking pot-shots at people I support. But on this one, he's way off.
August 12, 201115 yr Jon Stewart isn't funny at all, IMO. I've tried to watch his show but I could only make it through a couple minutes of it before I realized that I hadn't laughed once. Then I turn it on the Jersey Shore.

Did we not watch the same video? Didn't she talk out both sides of her mouth about the man's right for maternity leave?
August 13, 201115 yr Did we not watch the same video? Didn't she talk out both sides of her mouth about the man's right for maternity leave? How so? She said they can get time off under the act and she earlier that she didn't think it was for men. What am I missing here? Did she say she now thinks men should get time off? If so, it wasn't in that clip, unless perhaps we didn't watch the same video. Poor job by Stewart.
