Vice President Joe Biden joined House Democrats in lashing tea party Republicans Monday, accusing them of having “acted like terrorists” in the fight over raising the nation’s debt limit, according to several sources in the room.

 

Biden was agreeing with a line of argument made by Rep. Mike Doyle (D-Pa.) at a two-hour, closed-door Democratic Caucus meeting.

 

“We have negotiated with terrorists,” an angry Doyle said, according to sources in the room. “This small group of terrorists have made it impossible to spend any money.”

 

Biden, driven by his Democratic allies’ misgivings about the debt-limit deal, responded: “They have acted like terrorists.”

 

Biden later denied he used that term in an interview with CBS.

 

Earlier in the day, Biden told Senate Democrats that Republican leaders have “guns to their heads” in trying to negotiate deals.

The media guy Bill O'Reilly has on his show made a statement last night concerning some who are calling the TPers terrorists. He said, "These are people that don't call real terrorists terrorists." I thought it was funny.

Wonder if this is a talking point as I've heard the term used several times recently. That's quite a coincidence.

Well, it's kind of true, they help their own party hostage! Even Boehner scolded them and told them to "get your (rear-ends) in line". Some damage has already been done because of them! I am okay for people wanting to cut spending but the way they tried to go about it was over the top, you can't balance the budget in one sweep, if we didn't have a few wars going on now it may have had a better chance.

 

We do have to bring the debt down, and without raising taxes (which they don't want) with cuts, it will never happen.

While "terrorists" is a bad choice of words given the negative connotations from the past decade, is it not fair to say that a small vocal minority has hijacked the process with their intractability and unwillingness to compromise?

While I'm not a Tea Party fan, in fact I'm pretty tired of ALL politicians, I think you're willing to forget all the years of the unwillingness to compromise in Washington.

 

Back to the thread, I think it's really poor when the Vice President engages in such deplorable behavior as to call others that disagree with their ideology terrorists. I also feel that if it were Tea Party members or someone from the GOP calling Obama or other Democrats terrorists, you guys would be calling for their immediate dismissal.

They certainly are shaking things up. Washington needs to be shaken out of it's comfort zone so they don't just keep doing what hasn't been successful in the past.
