Madyson Moran from Holy Cross verballed back in the spring to the 3 time Big South conference champions Radford Highlanders in VA. Radford has made the field in of 64 in 2 of the last 3 years. They have also recieved votes in the coaches top 25 each of the last 2 seasons. She will be on a full athletic scholarship. Moran will be a junior this coming year.

I would like to say from experience when it comes to playing and coaching at the college level. Until these kids from this area decide to play one sport and concentrate on one sport and plays year round (as much as you can due to the weather) it is going to be hard to get noticed fromDiv I & II schools. Yes it is great to play at the local universities (colleges) but I know for a fact some of these kids (Miller & Griffin) could have gone on and played at a higher level. These kids will never get recruited unless they start playing on teams that are high ASA A or Gold teams. They have to go play in the nationals and in good tournaments (local tournaments and playing 20 games during the summer does not cut it). Good tournaments are ones that are being hosted in Colorado around the 4th of July weekend and tournaments in Kansas City, Texas, Florida etc.

There is maybe 1 tourney in Ohio that I would recommend (stingrays) and none in KY. There are other tourney's in both states that get college's there but very few where you will see multiple D1 coaches. Then you have to factor in if there are 50 plus teams there and 10 coaches what are your chances of getting seen. Some of the better tourneys in the midwest to south have been the Demarina and orland sparks in Chicago, Scentic City in Chatt Tn, Atlanta Legancy.

 

I would also say to players wanting to be seen that Fall ball is very important. You need to play in good tourney's in the fall, and start early most D1 schools are done with the 2013 class and making offers to the 2014 and 2015 classes now.

I played softball in Texas and coached in Kansas in a high competitive junior college conference.

 

Back in the day (HA - 15 years ago) there were very good teams coming out of the Louisville/Columbus/Cincinnati area. I cannot remember their names but those teams could compete with the better teams in the country. Maybe not the top Texas/California/Florida/Arizona teams but could pull out the wins every once in awhile. I completely forgot about the Chicago area. I always remember playing the Stone City Sharks. I also remember a team out of Ohio and I want to say they were out of the Columbus area called the MadDogs or something like that. They were always good as well.

 

I do have to agree about the Fall ball thing. It is very important. Tryouts will begin next Saturday, August 20 for all teams. I also agree with you regarding the recruiting. Some schools are looking for 2013 but the only reason why is if a recruit decided not to play anymore or a new coach came in and some of the recruits left.

I agree with you 100% on your statement. The Campbell Co. & the NDA coach were trying to build the programs correctly at their respective schools. I am not sure what exactly happened at NDA but the Campbell Co. coach did not come back due to the fact that his wife stayed in Houston for the 4 months he was up here. The record did not show it but the fact is the program was getting better.

I think the same is true for softball in regrads to club and playing year round as it is soccer and volleyball. Just around hear it hasn't taken off like it has with the other sports. With the college world series games being on espn and with them getting the ratings they have recieved I think it only get more kids playing it in this area.

 

Not saying it could not happen but I don't see a way a college coach at least at the D1 level recurits a kid bc of their HS team or at least not in this part of the country. My daughter's summer team will have almost the whole team play D1 ball in a couple of years and not one of the college coaches ever talked to any of the kids HS coach.

Cincy Doom 95, every girl in the 2012 and 2013 class expect 1 has at least 2 or more D1 offers, a couple of our 2014's will get there's soon. (hopefully!)

 

This was the last year for the Doom 95 team. The team had a great run and won a lot of tourney's and placed high in nationals several years.
