Holmes 2011/2012

Featured Replies

Basketball season for 2011/2012 should provide another exciting year. What should we expect from Holmes? Remember, please be constructive.

Holmes should easily be top 3 in the region with what they return.

I'd expect their starting lineup to look something like this:

1- 6'0 Quan Palmer

2- 6'1 Bj Coston

3- 6'2 Charles Knox

4- 6'5 Dontel Rice

5- 6'3 Chris Englemon

Rice should easily be the most athletic player in the region and if he plays to his capabilities, should average a double double.

Coston and Palmer form a very athletic and quick backcourt that also can stroke it from long range. Palmer had a coming out party in the region tourney with 17 against Boone and Coston will be one of the better rebounding guards in the region. Very strong for his size.

Charles Knox should be a brut down low. What he lacks in height, he makes up in pure strength. With a wide body, he makes it tough for the opposition at both ends of the floor.

Chris Englemon is somewhat of a wildcard. He stepped in for Peterson at the end of the year and Holmes didn't miss a beat. Holmes simply needs him to do what he has been doing for the past couple years...rebound and play intense at both ends of the floor. If his mental game catches up to his physical game, Holmes will have a very good player.

After those 5, the question will be Holmes depth.

5'11 Sr Tre Lewis is back with the team this year, as far as I know, and should provide some depth at the 1 or 2 along with 5'10 jr Carlos Mullins-Evans. Outside of those two, nobody really saw varsity time last year.

The sophomore class has a very good player in 5'11 Keyontae Herndon, who dressed varsity last year as a frosh and played a lot at the JV level. He will remind a lot of people of a more athletic Duran Jefferson at that age. Kid has unreal hops for his size and is extremely quick. 6'1 Jamonte Wilson could see some time as I've heard nothing but good things about him and if they can get 6'5 Marcus Hill in the weightroom, he may be able to provide some minutes here and there at the 4 and 5 position. I've also heard there is a 6'7 soph that didn't play last year due to transferring too late to be eligible. Not sure how good he is, but you can't teach size.

The two frosh, Potter and Covington may be pulled up to play JV and some varsity but I'm not too sure yet. From all I've heard, both are the real deal and have a lot of athleticism.

Holmes simply needs to do what they did last year...listen to Coach Booher and let the system work to their strengths which is quickness and speed to create turnovers and easy transition points.

Having Coach L on the bench this year will also go a long way, IMO, in helping with the development of this group as a team. Dixie will be tough, but if there's any team that is going to beat them and get to Rupp, I'd say Holmes is one of those teams, along with Newcath.

Update: Dasean Peterson is now back at Holmes and from my understanding has also been practicing with them. This has to nice them up to top 2 in the region with Dixie. The starting 5 will be very good.

I also heard that 6'5 F Hunter Hoskins is also back with the team which adds depth to the front court.

A few new faces you'll see:

6'1 Tannen Tevis - played his freshman year but didn't play last year as a soph. Very quick guard that has a nice stroke from outside. Adds depth and decent size to the guard position. Very good athlete as he's also been seeing varsity time on the gridiron since his frosh year.

Two other names I heard but don't know much about:

Delaun Hayes

AJ Barrett

One thing i do know...Holmes will be very deep this year and once again, extremely athletic.

I'll be really surprised to see him in uniform....just sayin.

Also Freshman James (Beetle) Bolten. He has hit the AAU circuit pretty hard the last two summers with a couple Cincy teams. He really pushes himself, and has lots of speed and athleticism.

Only time will tell.

How big is he?

How big is he?

Maybe 5'7"? Slim kid, good ball control, he can get up, and has been having a lot of success with the 3 pt, from what I have seen.

Knox is a wide load, I really liked what I saw from him last season, is he their QB? Two solid guards and another Rice, they are like the Funke's of SK, they just keep coming through the pipeline.

Just going to throw this out there...

Talked to Coach Listerman the other day. He said wants to get into the classroom. He also said he was nervous, but no more nervous then he ever was at coaching at a new job. He told me he wasn't able to make as many open gyms as he would have liked but he also ensured me that the few he made it to that there was plenty of talent there to succeed. I'm pulling for Coach L (and while i know he didn't coach me, I still learned a lot from him). Good luck into your new endevors!

Yea I believe Knox is their qb. He will be tough to handle down low. He's basically a smaller Trevan Brown.

The guy I'm really expecting big things from is BJ Coston. I think he and Wish Palmer could end up being the best guard tandem in the region.

Heard Potter, Covington, and Bolden would all three likely be playing up with Potter likely seeing varsity time.

Peterson is listed on Holmes footba

Peterson is listed on Holmes' football roster...id assume if he plays this Friday night, he will also be playing and eligible for basketball as well.
